USA Baseball World Cup Roster, Netherlands Roster and more in 8-28’s International Update

Well, LLWS has a off day today, so it’s all international baseball today.

The USA has released it’s World Cup Roster. This is the first time in decades the US of A has gone into a IBAF World Cup as defending champ. The squad consists of AAA and AA players, a few that I recognize include Pedro Alvarez (Pirates organization), Daniel McCutchen (Pirates organization), Terry Tiffee (Phillies, member of 2008 Olympic Team), Jason Childers (Rays- had cup of coffee in ‘06), Trevor Reckling (Angels) and Trevor Plouffe (Twins organization). The team is being managed by Eddie Rodriguez (currently a coach in the Royals organization), with Kirk Champion as Pitching Coach and Ernie Young as hitting coach.

The Honkballers have released a preliminary roster. And yes, Randall Simon is on it. Rod Delmonico will be managing again.

Oh, and the USA won the 16 and under championship held by the IBAF, beating the Cubans on August 23rd. America! **** Yeah!

Glad to see Jason Castro on the roster as one of USA's catchers.

By contrast I am pretty surprised to NOT see Buster Posey as one of the catchers. The Giants had been pretty clear they thought he was going to be on the team. And nothing against Castro but I think Posey would be a better choice.
