‘USA’ chant YouTube will not be removed by MLB

Yeah, but good luck finding the equally historic Kennedy - Castro match-up from the other day!

In one of the best sporting moments in memory, a baseball game was transcended by national patriotism Sunday night. Players on the field were competing in a baseball game—heated rivals, in fact—but when news of Osama Bin Laden being killed spread throughout Citizen’s Bank Park Sunday night via handheld devices and word of mouth, USA chants erupted. It was truly a testament to how, despite our many differences, we are all bound together in this great country.

I linked the video into 3 up, 3 down late Sunday night because I figured it would be pulled like every other MLB video on youtube. But Monday morning, MLB.com announced it would not use a copyright claim to pull the video, citing historical importance and a lack of impact on the game. (Eric Fisher on Twitter)

Repoz posting links today :: Josh Hamilton arguing politics during the HR Derby, but claiming that he should still win the HR hitting crown because he made his arguments in a baseball stadium.

I fully expect MLB to take as much advantage of last night's game as much as they possibly can. I'm sure there marketing people are already looking for synergies outside the box and ways to rebrand MLB as the Navy SEALS of American sports leagues.

Just my opinion and all but Philly crowds will chant "USA! USA!" at the drop of a hat.

Oh, look MLB, you can make things available on youtube when it suits your interests.

Please let other things go up on youtube, or make them otherwise available. There's a ton of footage from old games that add to the history and makeup of the game. You know, the kind of things that can really add to the fan experience. Get them up there.

Your insistence on removing every last clip that shows baseball only hurts fans of the game.

Outside of Gaylord Perry, MLB might be the least aquatic of the major sports.

In Milwaukee, back in 1997 I believe, the Yankees were visiting Milwaukee and Hideki Irabu was pitching his 3nd start, game was on ESPN. Dave Nillson (Australian) hit a key HR late that knocked Irabu out of the game, it was his first loss (Irabu was 2-0) but the first of many horrific pitching performances by the Japanese pitcher. As Irabu walked off the mound, the crowd chanted USA!, USA!, USA!......Irabu stuck his tongue out at the crowd in response. This was the last time the Yankees lost to the American League version of the Brewers.

After the game when asked about the USA! chants, Nillson said, "I don't know how I exactly fit into that?".

Can we put their logo on the bases?

They could probably get away with it today.

I think the stadiums in Arizona and Miami both have pools or hot-tubs.

I can sort of understand why MLB removes Youtube clips of current events; they really do a very good job chronicling everything on their website. Even unflattering stuff gets coverage; MLB is not the NHL, where you wouldn't see a fight without Youtube. It takes away hits and income from them.

But there really is no justification for not letting people put up old games and clips. It drives mania, it doesn't kill it. If someone wants to upload the 9th inning of Game 5 of the 1980 NLCS, then let them.

Totally agree with #17.

The upside is so much greater than the down side for MLB in embracing you tube. You are right it would really drive fan loyalty and intensity for their core fan. It is smart business to leverage things like you tube, even if you don't own it.

Isn't Michigan State going to play a game on an aircraft carrier next season? That's pretty aquatic. Also, the Lakers.

Yes, versus UNC. They haven't yet determined the aircraft carrier, which sort of amuses me.

I also read that zero tickets are being made available to the public, and each ticket will have the person's name on it.
