Vernon Wells not only a local sports hero, but all-star philanthropist as well

Two years ago, Vernon Wells realized there were far too many homeless children in Arlington. That led Wells, along with his wife Charlene, to create his Perfect 10 foundation in 2008, which is aimed at helping the homeless children in the town he grew up in.

“We’ve always thought about doing something and we finally had a chance to see some underprivileged kids in Arlington,” said Wells, a center fielder with the Toronto Blue Jays. “We realized that there was a lot more we could be doing instead of just writing checks here and there.”

Shooty should draft this man of virtue.

As soon as you create a viral video of you Upton-ing yourself!

Good for Vernon. He's a modern day Robin Hood! If it makes Jays fans feel better, they can think of his salary as foreign aid to a poorer nation just to their south.

If he were a real philanthropist, he'd forfeit the balance of his contract.

Why does Rogers Communications deserve the money more than these kids in Arlington do?

Are we sure they meant "philanthropist" and not "full on rapist"?

This amuses me so; I'm convinced you did not come up with it yourself.

When I saw "Perfect 10 foundation" I thought he had something else planned.
