Veteran Sheets to get Sunday start for Braves

INSERT BEN SHEETS/KKK sheets joke here…

The Atlanta Braves plan to start veteran right-hander Ben Sheets in Sunday’s series finale against the New York Mets.
It will be the first big-league start for Sheets since July 19, 2010.

I thought he was on the A's.

A's cut him. Braves picked him up two weeks ago. Two starts in the minors and now he's on the big club for the second half.

This isn't even likely to start well.

On the upside, all he really has to do is pitch better than Mike Minor has.

who re-makes the majors first, Sheets or Prior???

I blame Tony LaRussa for the fact that Sheets isn't starting the All-Star game.

That's a lofty expectation.

Is Prior ready to comeback on Friday or Saturday?

It's against the Mets. I'm sure he'll pitch a 2 hit shutout.

Bizarrely, the Braves are apparently leaning toward bumping Randall Delgado out of the rotation for Sheets (per organizational mouthpiece Mark Bowman). Delgado's putting up a standard issue sub-par rookie season while Minor's getting his head kicked in and is on pace to give up 671 home runs. It it an options thing?

More likely a LHP/RHP thing, and a "we can't pawn his ass off to Milwaukee if we demote him" thing.

Well, he's K'd 21 in 9.1 innings in AAA (which is insane), but he's also walked 10 (which is also insane). So...probably not?

I really hope he stays healthy enough to pitch even a little bit this season. That would be amazing.

Harvs always had the funniest predictions on what malady would strike Ben Sheets next. Hope he chimes in.

When Leo was around this would have had a chance. Now it will just result in a stack of medical bills.

Oh, no, not the great Ben Sheets!! Sheer abject terror has been struck into the hearts of Nationals fans everywhere with this awful news.

I don't know if this was serious, or if it was Mets fan self-loathing, but it was a pretty reasonable prediction.

Sheets DID pitch a 2-hit shutout today, albeit the 6-inning kind.

My favorite Road Runner bit is one in which the coyote unleashes a bag full of little flying sticks of dynamite. Predictably, that fails to bring down the road runner. However, for the rest of the bit, just as the coyote's plan was about to come off, for real, one of those sticks of dynamite would land on the coyote and blow up.

So, I predict that Sheets will go into the 9th with a lead in the last game of the season, with a Braves win clinching the second wild card spot. In that inning, a little flying stick of dynamite labeled, "Brewers", will land on his arm and explode.

Good for Ben Sheets! Now maybe this will inspire Justin Thompson to finally get that start for the Rangers.

I hope minor and delgado were watching this game and paying attention today.
