Vin Scully will return for 2012 season

The greatest sports broadcaster ever, back for at least one more season.

Almost coincidentally, before the game Scully had stopped by a table in the press room to visit with a few reporters, which he does almost nightly. Naturally, he told several amusing stories, spent nearly 10 minutes chatting with the local scribes.

“If I do come back next year, this will be a big reason why,” Scully said. “I love these visits.”

Maybe we should have had an inkling of what was to come when he started to leave and turned back and said, “Besides, what else would I do?”

Later over his Prime Ticket broadcast, Scully said: “I don’t want to make a big deal out of it; you and I have been friends a long time. But after a lot of soul searching and a few prayers, we’ve decided that we will come back with the Dodgers next year. God’s been awfully good to me, allowing me to do the things I love to do. I asked him, ‘One more year at least?’ and he said. ‘OK.’ “

Thanks to Larry.

Vin Scully is my hero. And Dumbledore.

Scully never killed his sister. Or had reason to think he did.

Nice. After the circus this year, you couldn't fault him for walking away.

God gets to talk to Vin Scully? Lucky bastard.

Dodger Stadium's golden anniversary wouldn't be the same without Vin's golden tones. It would be even better if the property was under new ownership.

Vin Scully talks to God and gets answers ? Who does he think he is, Michelle Bachmann?

I think it is just sad that in this economy a senior citizen has to keep working to put food on the table. Didn't the Dodgers provide him with any financial career planning advice?

Who will Larry King and Regis hang with next summer?

Vin Scully talks to God and gets answers ?

It's the least God can do after subjecting him to a plague of McCourts.

I imagine they sound much like each other. Or perhaps God walks away from their conversations thinking, "Man, when I decide to give a man a golden throat, I don't screw around..."

That sounds like something that would involve some screwing.

No, that's exactly why Dumbledore IS my hero. When he was young he was arrogant, hungry for power, and generally dismissive of his family and friends. It took tragedy to change him, but he learned from his mistakes and matured into a wise, caring, courageous and esteemed old man. As a civil leader his philosophies matured and deepened over time - he went from (somewhat unintentionally) helping to formulate the ideas and principles of the First Wizarding War with Gellert Grindelwald, to devoting the rest of his life to preventing Voldemort from causing the second. Which is exactly why he's such a great character, and a man worthy of respect.

Also, he was a flashy dresser and had a weird sense of humor.

I certainly hope not!
