Wacha will debut Thursday at Busch

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Less than a year removed from his selection in the draft, celebrated prospect Michael Wacha will make his major-league debut Thursday at Busch Stadium against the Kansas City Royals.

While it’s not nearly as easy of debut as it would have once been, this has to be one of the easiest situations they could call him up for with half the pitchers on the team having their arms falling off.

Wacha's numbers.

His numbers were outstanding in a very small sample size last year (40 K and 4 BB in 21 IP). This year his ERA has stayed good (2.05) but his peripherals have been less good (34 K and 15 BB in 53 IP). Again, its a small sample size, but 34 K in 53 IP isn't particularly impressive at all. Its hard for me to know what to expect, at least once he faces major league competition in start #2.

I agree his K rate (and GB rate) in AAA leaves some to be desired, but lets not forgot he also dominated in ST. Then again he is also a member of the Cardinal organization so he could have been awful in the minors and still come up and dominate for the big league team.

Not bad for a 9th starter. Waka waka.
