I find the rate stat series interesting so far, as is the leadoff rankings piece. I’m going to post some comments on the blog itself.
I too an surprised—and delighted—to learn that Patrio has a blog.
This Win Shares series is a good summary of WS’s conceptual flaws. I agree wholeheartedly that the “zeroing out” is a real problem; it’s something I noticed the first time I read the book, and if I notice it, you’ve done something wrong.
Patriot makes a good point I hadn’t considered when he discusses how WS splits up credit between pitching and fielding by looking at team K/BB/HR rates instead of individual. It might be better to define each pitcher as being his own “team” for the purposes of that step.
I’m just delving into the rest of the blog now, but there’s some great-looking stuff here.
