WaPo blog: Elijah Dukes to Nationals? (RR)

Dave Sheinin just confirmed what I’ve been trying to for the last couple hours—that troubled Tampa Bay outfielder Elijah Dukes has been dealt to the Washington Nationals.

We do not yet know who was dealt in return.

AP: Rays trade outfielder Elijah Dukes to Nationals

The Tampa Bay Rays traded another troubled outfielder Monday, sending Elijah Dukes to the Washington Nationals for minor league pitcher Glenn Gibson.

He played a great defensive CF in the minor leagues and we good in his brief time playing it up here. There is NO reason to think otherwise.

There is not a single word in those sentences that is true.

Defensively, Milledge features a right field arm and center field range. He does not always run good routes, but he has enough speed to outrun most mistakes of judgement. His speed also plays well on the bases, and he should be good for 20-plus steals annually.
-John Sickels, Jan. 2005.

...He was also given the award for Best Athlete and Best Defensive Outfielder for 2004. Played in the Arizona Fall League in 2005...He also earned the Best Hitter for Average, Best Athlete and Best Defensive OF awards as well [in 2005].

With his great speed and athleticism it comes as no surprise that Lastings is a very good defensive centerfielder. He has excellent range in the outfield and a solid arm to go along with it...

He's a fast runner who can steal some bases and is a strong all-around outfielder.

I mean. Come on. He's a good defensive outfielder. He looked good when I watched him, both in the majors, in the minors, and in spring training where I saw him play live, up close and personal. I'm not a scout, but Sickels and Baseball America are. In his own words, he plays better in CF than in the corners. Based on what I've seen, I believe him. Your turn, if you are going to continue to be obstinant.
