WaPo: Nyjer Morgan suspended seven games for throwing ball in stands

(~~~~~must suppress violent Bill Stoneman flashbacks~~~~~)

Nationals center fielder Nyjer Morgan was suspended seven games by Major League Baseball for his actions Saturday night. In the middle of the ninth inning, Morgan threw a ball into the stands at Citizens Bank Ballpark in Philadelphia and struck a fan. Morgan was to begin serving the suspension tonight, but he will appeal the decision and remain in the lineup for at least tonight.

The league also fined Morgan an undisclosed amount and classified Morgan’s actions as “inappropriate.” Morgan caught the final out of the game and then faked a throw into the center field stands. But the official press release, handed down by MLB disciplinarian Bob Watson, stated the throw occurred in the middle of the inning.

UPDATE, 7:15: Morgan threw the ball into the stands at the end of the eighth after he had exchanged in “an ongoing dialogue” with one fan, according to a league official. The back-and-forth with Morgan and the fan escalated until Morgan threw a ball into the crowd, which hit a different fan in the head. The league believes Morgan’s intent was not to simply toss the ball to a fan, as is custom.

Who else got suspended? There's no way he could have reached the stands without someone else touching that ball first....

So Phillies fans can't catch, he's supposed to be suspended for that?

On topic: Morgan's action can't be condoned. . Off topic: The Baseball Package has exposed me to every team's fans and IMHO the best looking fans are the Cubs, Rangers and Angels. And BY FAR, the ugliest fans are at Citizen's Bank Park.

Cubs--big city, social site, I find Chicago girls to be crazy cute, love well-built Midwestern girls

Rangers--Texas.

Angels--California.

Citizens--Philly.

"Ongoing dialogue" is such a cute euphemism for "HEYYYYY NYJER...FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKKKKKKKK YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!"

I'll admit that I found Nyjer's antics to be pretty amusing early on. Oddly, they've gotten less amusing as his quality of play has deteriorated.

Not a surprise, Philly is one ugly city.

Interesting you mention this. I was in Chicago last week, coincidentally, attending my first game at Wrigley. What struck me about Chicago women is I've never been in a city with hotter "average" women. By that I mean, the women you're seeing every day on the train, walking down the sidewalk to work and, yes, at baseball games. Los Angeles has plenty of fine-looking women, but they're "professionally hot," if that makes sense - you're not seeing them in the produce section at the grocery store.
Disclosure: I married a Midwestern girl, so I may biased.

Nyjer, please.

Even more interesting, last week Joe Cowley created a big little controversy when he went off on how there are more good looking women in Minnesota than in Chicago. One of his quotes:

Dudes in Chicago have to earn a hot chick ... in Minny they're falling out of trees and some ugly dudes have some big gloves.

We tried to warn you when the Milledge trade went down, but would you listen? No.

I wonder what prompted this kind of response from Morgan.

Nyjer, please.

I'm embarrassed at how funny I found that.

Great so now I have two reasons to go to Minnesota. (The first is to attend a game at Target Field)

I'm not.

EDIT: Realized this could be taken in two ways. I meant that I'm not embarrassed, not that it wasn't funny. It was very funny.

Right. The people you do see in the produce section are all just picking up some fruit for professional hot women.

WGN will often seek out chicks in the stands. That's a nice feature.

Nyjer, please.

I'm embarrassed at how funny I found that.

I have to thank you for pointing it out. I missed it. Sometimes I skim too quick through these threads.

SF has plenty of hot looking women. Some of them even have a vagina.

Hands down, the hottest "average" I've ever encountered was in Toronto. I was only there once, for a week, but I felt like I spent the entire week walking around with my tongue dragging on the sidewalk.
