It's funny when my friend texted me to say that the Angels were postponed the other day and he would pitch against the Sox tonight my response was "great/dammit." I'm looking forward to staying up to watch him pitch and I kinda want him to pitch well but I also wouldn't hate if the Sox would score 10 runs in the first and slowly pull away.

Isn't locust already plural? Like deer, or moose.

According to the Wiktionary the plural is "locusts."

It's sunny here today, but cold. Not as cold as yesterday, but no wet stuff from the sky at the moment. So, I think they'll play.

Keep the faith. I like the bullpen to rebound tonight. Hopefully Wheeler can give us 6 good ones with the G man waiting in the wings if he should falter.

The Jays get an extra game today, as they are playing a single-ticket double-header. If you had tickets for yesterday's game that was canceled because of giant blocks of ice crashing through the roof, then you get to exchange them for another day or get a refund.

If you had tickets for tonight's 7pm game, you can go in early for the 3pm start of the first game. The problem is if you had tickets for the real game (at 7pm), then you might have a problem if you planned to go to that game. They say they are going to start the second game 30 minutes after the first one ends. That could lead to a 6:30pm start (if it's 2.5hr first game) and you might miss the first inning or two...

Judging from the photo on mlb.com, about as many people as you would expect are there for the first game.

What's the weather expected to look like in Boston? I'm 90 minutes west and it's wet and nasty.

In Boston? It's supposed to be OK. The forecast is cold but dry tonight and tomorrow. Thursday looks gloomy.

FYI I hope you aren't going to the game because the Sox are in Anaheim.

BOS/LAA is another marquee series. Guess I won't be getting any sleep tonight.

D'oh! I didn't realize that the Sox had gone west.
   24. salvomania Posted: April 17, 2018 at 05:14 PM (#5655469)
Randall Grichuk entered the day 3-for-42 for 2018, and now has a double and three-run homer today.

He was super streaky as a Cardinal, so I wouldn't be surprised to see him go on an insane tear for the next week or so. Fantasy owners take note.
   25. salvomania Posted: April 17, 2018 at 05:17 PM (#5655470)
Blaine Boyer came out to begin the 6th inning with the Royals down 5-3; Six of the seven hitters he faced reached base before he exited with the bases loaded and the Royals now down 8-3.

Well, but they're not all strewn across an icy highway, dead or dying. So I'd say he's about even.

I'm always left scratching my head when a reliever is left in to allow so many baserunners (especially in a fairly close game), but I guess in this case it's probably because this is the first of two games for these teams today.

Gardner is my favorite Yankee right now. Always good, always 'fighty' , a true Yankee.
Those Judge and Stanton freaks are a circus show not worthy of the Yankee logo.

   33. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: April 17, 2018 at 07:38 PM (#5655535)
What I don't understand about baseball players of the likes of Stanton, Judge, Pence etc. is... are they too dumb to change their stance, cheat a little, open up more ... you learn that after like 2 years of Little League. Sometimes I think...wow, either you haven't been to Little League, or you are dumb as a walnut !

I am pretty sure Stanton is dumb as a walnut.

Ok, so, if the weather gets better, picks up force... the most likely teams to win more :

Nationals
Royals
Rays
Mets
Yankees
Angels
Reds

Totally made up ad hoc !

The balls must be juiced.

Not gonna be an easy night to hit in Chicago. In the first, Wainwright had 3k and 1hbp. Thru 2, chtwood has 3bb and 5k.
   46. The Anthony Kennedy of BBTF (Scott) Posted: April 17, 2018 at 08:37 PM (#5655577)
It makes sense that Bryce might try to bunt here. He's fast enough to score on a single, there's no one on base, and over time it'll reduce the number of shifts he'll face.

K-Bar - random question: Do you go to the Mariano's on Lawrence & Ravenswood? A few weeks ago I saw a guy who I thought looked like you (although having only met you in person the one time, I could of course be wrong).
   53. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: April 17, 2018 at 09:06 PM (#5655590)

I only shop at that Mariano's. I live about 3 blocks away. So yeah, the blindingly handsome guy you saw was likely me.

I mean, it beats having Reyes swing.
   57. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: April 17, 2018 at 09:11 PM (#5655598)
Ha, funny - I'm just a little east down Lawrence, so I usually go there as well, although occasionally to the smaller one on Foster if it's just a quick trip. I usually go on Sunday afternoons, so if I run into you, a beer at the bar on me. (What blessed soul had the brilliant idea of putting a bar in a grocery store, and how did it take them that long to have it?)
   58. phredbird Posted: April 17, 2018 at 09:15 PM (#5655599)

WIIIILMER! I ask my fellow Mets fans again, would you be down with a 4/32 contract for Wilmer after his final arb year? He's a goddamned folk hero!

(granted that Banta, Russlan, Lassus and co. appear to not be on the chatter tonight)

Wainwright and chatwood in a weird lack of control contest. Or it's so cold it's hard to throw the ball where you want.
   67. KB JBAR (trhn) Posted: April 17, 2018 at 09:36 PM (#5655618)
Ha, that's awesome. Sunday's often our big shopping day, so it's possible we'll run into each other. I can't always recognize people I've worked with for 10 years, so I self-diagnosed with mild face blindness (that's on a spectrum, right?). So you might have to introduce yourself. (Or you can safely pretend you don't know me at all, if that's how you want to play it.)

And yes, bars at the grocery store is clear evidence that human civilization is improving. In fact, that argument could probably shave a few hundred posts a week off of OTP.
   68. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: April 17, 2018 at 09:41 PM (#5655623)

I had checked out and was on the escalator up when I saw either you or your doppelganger, but I doubt I would have randomly gone up to someone in a grocery store and said "Are you K-Bar J-Bar?" under any circumstances. That could get awkward in a hurry.

I'm not one of those 3 (though I guess I am "and co.") but yeah, I think I would. Being the type of player who gets 350-400 plate appearances and reps at 5 different positions over the course of a season seems to suit him. And of course he's a goddamned folk hero. So, sure, why not.

This has been mentioned a couple times, but the DH rule needs to be changed to be transferable. It's insane that Ohtani can't hit in his own starts unless he's in an NL stadium because the team would forfeit having a DH.

So this Hicks kid in the cards pen, is he a starter just breaking in relieving or is he just a relief prospect, because my Lord this looks like future all star closer stuff.

NBCSN gun has him 102 fastball and 84/85 slider.

Listening to NESN talk about people wearing the cheekguard, I wonder how long until players request the cricket helmet. It'd obstruct their vision less.

Ohtani is looking like he'll be done by five innings at this rate.

That's on the Angels, as much as the rule. If the Angels think Ohtani is good for 6 or 7 innings on the mound, that's 3 plate appearances, or more, and they can pinch hit after that when the relief pitcher would bat. The Angels don't have sufficient faith in Ohtani to go with that option, possibly also influenced by a desire to give Pujols more DH time.
