It would be kind of crazy to say that if you watch one game of the WBC (besides the finals and semi-finals), you should watch this one.... but if you watch one game of the WBC (besides the finals and semi-finals), you should watch this one.

Who is pitching for the DR?
   3. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: March 14, 2013 at 12:09 PM (#4388265)
Samuel Deduno against RA Dickey
   4. Mess with the Meat, you get the Wad! Posted: March 14, 2013 at 02:48 PM (#4388377)
I have a feeling tensions will be high in this game. Should be awesone
   5. Gamingboy Posted: March 14, 2013 at 04:09 PM (#4388443)
I predict this game will all come down to how Dickey pitches.
   6. Mess with the Meat, you get the Wad! Posted: March 14, 2013 at 04:15 PM (#4388448)
Any teamates playing against each other tonight?
   7. dr. scott Posted: March 14, 2013 at 04:32 PM (#4388463)
Reyes, Encarnacion, and Dickey will be teammates.
   8. Gamingboy Posted: March 14, 2013 at 05:27 PM (#4388492)
Reyes, Encarnacion, and Dickey will be teammates.

Deduno is with the Twins and will face Mauer.
   9. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: March 14, 2013 at 05:57 PM (#4388509)
Arencibia is still a Blue Jay too isn't he?
   10. Good cripple hitter Posted: March 14, 2013 at 06:23 PM (#4388519)
Arencibia is still a Jay, unless the team wants to make the playoffs with Henry Blanco as their starting catcher. That might be fun.

Moises Sierra has been optioned to AAA but he was a Blue Jay last year and is still in the organization.
   11. Gamingboy Posted: March 14, 2013 at 06:51 PM (#4388534)
EMERGENCY! David Wright is out with a sore back! Willie Bloomquist to play third!

It's like we just saw Bucky get blown up by the Red Skull.
   12. JJ1986 Posted: March 14, 2013 at 06:57 PM (#4388538)
Willie Bloomquist to play third!

And bat fifth?
   13. Gamingboy Posted: March 14, 2013 at 06:58 PM (#4388539)

And bat fifth?

No, they have moved Stanton up to fifth.
   14. Gamingboy Posted: March 14, 2013 at 07:01 PM (#4388540)
Okay, so if David Wright is Captain America, who is Bloomquist? Ant-Man?
   15. JJ1986 Posted: March 14, 2013 at 07:04 PM (#4388541)
I didn't realize Zobrist had played so little 3B, but I guess it makes sense considering his teammate. They should still put him there.
   16. Lassus Posted: March 14, 2013 at 07:06 PM (#4388542)
This MLB Network broadcast continues to be a major pain in the ass.
   17. Good cripple hitter Posted: March 14, 2013 at 07:07 PM (#4388543)
who is Bloomquist? Ant-Man?

Given that he's married, I'd hope not. I'm trying to think of guys who are useful enough to wind up on teams, but not really useful overall. Ah, Justice from Busiek's Avengers.

This MLB Network broadcast continues to be a major pain in the ass.

Whatever's going on, you could be listening to Sutcliffe. A baseball game broadcast with Metal Machine Music as its soundtrack would be preferable to Sutcliffe.
   18. Gamingboy Posted: March 14, 2013 at 07:08 PM (#4388544)
I remember reading somewhere that if David Wright were to be out permanently with injury Chase Headley will be added.
   19. Gamingboy Posted: March 14, 2013 at 07:09 PM (#4388545)
Given that he's married, I'd hope not.

Hey, I didn't say WHAT Ant-Man...
   20. JJ1986 Posted: March 14, 2013 at 07:13 PM (#4388547)
Blue Jay battle!
   21. Tschingsch Posted: March 14, 2013 at 07:14 PM (#4388548)
who is Bloomquist? Ant-Man?

Powdered Toast Man
   22. JJ1986 Posted: March 14, 2013 at 07:18 PM (#4388549)
Cano leads the tournament with...22 total stolen bases?
   23. Gamingboy Posted: March 14, 2013 at 07:19 PM (#4388550)
Good Dickey so far. That's what Team USA needs.
   24. rb's team is hopeful for the new year! Posted: March 14, 2013 at 07:22 PM (#4388552)
Any team that starts willie bloomquist is not trying to win.
   25. Gamingboy Posted: March 14, 2013 at 07:23 PM (#4388554)
Willie Bloomquist was never supposed to start except in case of a super-emergency like what happened today.
   26. Gamingboy Posted: March 14, 2013 at 07:33 PM (#4388556)
Deduno... not so good.
   27. Weekly Journalist_ Posted: March 14, 2013 at 07:40 PM (#4388559)
What's the super emergency?
   28. Gamingboy Posted: March 14, 2013 at 07:40 PM (#4388560)
What's the super emergency?

David Wright getting scratched 15 minutes before gametime.
   29. JJ1986 Posted: March 14, 2013 at 07:42 PM (#4388561)
Ouch.
   30. Gamingboy Posted: March 14, 2013 at 07:42 PM (#4388562)
Hanley Ramirez found a bad knuckleball there.
   31. Weekly Journalist_ Posted: March 14, 2013 at 07:42 PM (#4388563)
Crush job.
   32. Weekly Journalist_ Posted: March 14, 2013 at 07:44 PM (#4388564)
Maybe we can get Longoria if we advance.
   33. Weekly Journalist_ Posted: March 14, 2013 at 07:47 PM (#4388565)
dickey is all wrong for this game
   34. JJ1986 Posted: March 14, 2013 at 07:54 PM (#4388569)
Let's bunt ball 4!
   35. Gamingboy Posted: March 14, 2013 at 07:57 PM (#4388571)
STOP ####### BUNTING
   36. JJ1986 Posted: March 14, 2013 at 07:59 PM (#4388572)
I'll bet they won't mention that the bunt didn't help.
   37. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: March 14, 2013 at 08:00 PM (#4388573)
love teh atmospher of the game
   38. Gamingboy Posted: March 14, 2013 at 08:03 PM (#4388575)
I'd say maybe in the 2017 classic they'd have somebody competent when it comes to bunt/don't bunt, but given the fact it'll probably be Tony LaRussa, I'll doubt it.
   39. Good cripple hitter Posted: March 14, 2013 at 08:04 PM (#4388576)
I'm not a fan of bunting on a 3-1 count against a wild pitcher, but it was Willie Bloomquist. If he's going to start, bunting a runner over to second doesn't seem like a terrible job for him.
   40. staring out the window and waiting for fenderbelly Posted: March 14, 2013 at 08:07 PM (#4388578)

I'd rather have vuvuzelas than that ####### air horn.
   41. Gamingboy Posted: March 14, 2013 at 08:12 PM (#4388579)
I know that most stadiums have rules against air horns and stuff, but I'm guessing they are being waived for the WBC for cultural and practical reasons...
   42. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: March 14, 2013 at 08:14 PM (#4388580)
I'm watching without sound but it looks like the Dominicans are raising an awful racket which is awesome.

   43. dr. scott Posted: March 14, 2013 at 08:17 PM (#4388582)
Can't believe no one has suggested...

Bloomquist = particle man

Is he a dot
Is he a spec
When in water does he get wet
Or does the water get him instead
Nobody knows
Particle man
   44. Gamingboy Posted: March 14, 2013 at 08:20 PM (#4388584)
I don't know if either Dickey or Deduno is gonna get through 5.
   45. dr. scott Posted: March 14, 2013 at 08:23 PM (#4388586)
Are the ball/strikes calls as bad as Game Center is saying. Seems to be an obvious miss nearly every at bat.
   46. Good cripple hitter Posted: March 14, 2013 at 08:24 PM (#4388589)
The strike zone looks pretty random, yeah.

EDIT: although it might be worth mentioning that Carlos Santana looks to be an abysmal pitch framer.
   47. JJ1986 Posted: March 14, 2013 at 08:25 PM (#4388590)
Kenley Jansen added to the Netherlands roster. He was on the team last time too. As the starting catcher.
   48. Tschingsch Posted: March 14, 2013 at 08:31 PM (#4388591)
Who is he replacing? The article on the WBC site didn't say.
   49. JJ1986 Posted: March 14, 2013 at 08:42 PM (#4388595)
For anyone who thinks the players don't care, they should watch Sam Deduno in this game.
   50. rb's team is hopeful for the new year! Posted: March 14, 2013 at 08:54 PM (#4388600)
Rick sutcliffe takes a backseat to no one in terrible announcing.
   51. Good cripple hitter Posted: March 14, 2013 at 08:59 PM (#4388603)
Rick sutcliffe takes a backseat to no one in terrible announcing.

What brought that on? His 180 from "Maddux is trying to take Dickey out of this game (at 79 pitches, no less) because that's what Toronto told him to do and Dickey is saying 'forget the pitch count, I'll take responsibility for any injuries that might happen from pitches 80-82'" to "They're just stalling to get a reliever warm" that happened in no more than 30 seconds, or his saying that Ron Gardenhire can ink Deduno into his rotation based on tonight's start? I thought the first one was a real tour de force for him.
   52. Der-K and the statistical werewolves. Posted: March 14, 2013 at 09:08 PM (#4388607)
It is kind of funny to use a knuckleballer in a tournament with relatively tight pitch count rules
   53. JJ1986 Posted: March 14, 2013 at 09:12 PM (#4388609)
I really don't think that was a strike.
   54. Mess with the Meat, you get the Wad! Posted: March 14, 2013 at 09:12 PM (#4388610)
got him looking, nice pitch there
   55. Honkie Kong Posted: March 14, 2013 at 09:16 PM (#4388615)
Americans should have a big edge in a battle of the bullpens.
Though I didn't know who Luke Gregerson was. Had to bbref him.
   56. The Clarence Thomas of BBTF (scott) Posted: March 14, 2013 at 09:21 PM (#4388616)
I really like Reyes' beard. He really rushed that throw.
   57. Mess with the Meat, you get the Wad! Posted: March 14, 2013 at 09:33 PM (#4388624)
not a bad move walking reyes for tjeda. also castro should have replaced him on the roster (obviously he is hurt but still should have been on.)
   58. Weekly Journalist_ Posted: March 14, 2013 at 09:34 PM (#4388626)
Not crazy about that IBB.
   59. Good cripple hitter Posted: March 14, 2013 at 09:36 PM (#4388628)
Sticking with Tejada here seems like a really poor decision.
   60. Mess with the Meat, you get the Wad! Posted: March 14, 2013 at 09:42 PM (#4388636)
They just called this the loudest crowd ever here....nice dig on the marlins and pointing out how great this crowd is tonight.
   61. JJ1986 Posted: March 14, 2013 at 09:45 PM (#4388639)
Nice job by - Who else? Octavio Dotel.
   62. Mess with the Meat, you get the Wad! Posted: March 14, 2013 at 09:52 PM (#4388641)
this is going down to the wire. what does the dr have left in the pen?
   63. JJ1986 Posted: March 14, 2013 at 09:56 PM (#4388644)
what does the dr have left in the pen?

At least Rodney and Casilla.
   64. Jarrod HypnerotomachiaPoliphili(Teddy F. Ballgame) Posted: March 14, 2013 at 10:04 PM (#4388647)
Kimbrel coming in. Violation of closer orthodoxy alert.
   65. Mess with the Meat, you get the Wad! Posted: March 14, 2013 at 10:07 PM (#4388648)
that had to be a maddux decision
   66. PeteF3 Posted: March 14, 2013 at 10:07 PM (#4388649)
What's unorthodox here? It's a tie game and the US is the home team.
   67. RollingWave Posted: March 14, 2013 at 10:11 PM (#4388652)
given the lineups here, who had 1:1 going into the 9th? I'm a bit shocked that neither side have exploded so far.

   68. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: March 14, 2013 at 10:11 PM (#4388653)
all this bunting talk. yowsa
   69. Mess with the Meat, you get the Wad! Posted: March 14, 2013 at 10:12 PM (#4388655)
horrible call
   70. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: March 14, 2013 at 10:12 PM (#4388656)
what a horrible strike call. is the ghost of eric gregg at the game???
   71. PeteF3 Posted: March 14, 2013 at 10:13 PM (#4388657)
Eric Gregg looked at that strike call and said, "what the hell, man."
   72. JJ1986 Posted: March 14, 2013 at 10:13 PM (#4388658)
Angel Hernandez, Ladies and Gentlemen.
   73. Mess with the Meat, you get the Wad! Posted: March 14, 2013 at 10:13 PM (#4388659)
he's wrong gregg will make worse calls during the season
   74. Dale Sams Posted: March 14, 2013 at 10:13 PM (#4388660)
I'm sure I'm not the first to say this but, I would think that for field players at least that the WBC would lead to better April numbers than ST...with the risk of injury compared to ST being very marginally greater.
   75. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: March 14, 2013 at 10:13 PM (#4388661)
good for him
   76. Good cripple hitter Posted: March 14, 2013 at 10:13 PM (#4388662)
Well, at least that strike call doesn't matter now.
   77. Jarrod HypnerotomachiaPoliphili(Teddy F. Ballgame) Posted: March 14, 2013 at 10:13 PM (#4388664)
B-b-but he's not in line for a save!

EDIT: And not so much for a win now, either.
   78. Mess with the Meat, you get the Wad! Posted: March 14, 2013 at 10:13 PM (#4388665)
he over comes gregg to tie the game
   79. The Clarence Thomas of BBTF (scott) Posted: March 14, 2013 at 10:13 PM (#4388668)
####.
   80. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: March 14, 2013 at 10:13 PM (#4388669)
The players clearly don't care about this tournament.
   81. Mess with the Meat, you get the Wad! Posted: March 14, 2013 at 10:15 PM (#4388670)
this is a playoff atmosphere crowd and players included. so fun to watch.
   82. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: March 14, 2013 at 10:15 PM (#4388671)
angel hernandez at times seems like he is almost daring major league baseball to fire him.
   83. Gamingboy Posted: March 14, 2013 at 10:15 PM (#4388672)
Who's starting for the PR tomorrow, any ideas?
   84. Peanut Posted: March 14, 2013 at 10:18 PM (#4388673)
Who knew Kimbrell was human?
   85. Esmailyn Gonzalez Sr. Posted: March 14, 2013 at 10:18 PM (#4388674)
I heard Figueroa is starting tomorrow.
   86. Mess with the Meat, you get the Wad! Posted: March 14, 2013 at 10:18 PM (#4388675)
wow
   87. Gamingboy Posted: March 14, 2013 at 10:18 PM (#4388676)
I had a bad feeling as soon as he came in without it being a save situation. I dunno why, but it seems like NOTHING GOOD EVER HAPPENS when a closer is used in a tied game.
   88. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: March 14, 2013 at 10:20 PM (#4388677)

DON'T ENCOURAGE THEM.
   89. JJ1986 Posted: March 14, 2013 at 10:21 PM (#4388679)
I really hope Bloomquist doesn't bat.
   90. Mess with the Meat, you get the Wad! Posted: March 14, 2013 at 10:21 PM (#4388681)
is wright avalibe to pinch hit? the us needs to replace all 3 hitters due up next
   91. Gamingboy Posted: March 14, 2013 at 10:22 PM (#4388682)
I really hope Bloomquist doesn't bat.

Zobrist had better bat for him.

Of course, the way baseball is, if Bloomquist does come up, he'll homer.
   92. JJ1986 Posted: March 14, 2013 at 10:22 PM (#4388684)
is wright avalibe to pinch hit?

They said no.
   93. Gamingboy Posted: March 14, 2013 at 10:23 PM (#4388685)
Actually, I have this feeling that the DR beating USA may work wonders in recruitment for the WBC, just because you know the DR guys won't let the Americans hear the end of it in the club house.
   94. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: March 14, 2013 at 10:24 PM (#4388686)
history's greatest haberdashery offender is on the mound?

the horror
   95. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: March 14, 2013 at 10:25 PM (#4388687)
since we are all compadres here i will state that the great hat debate was a new low in bbtf history. that anyone gave a sh8t other than to chuckle was dumbfounding
   96. Jarrod HypnerotomachiaPoliphili(Teddy F. Ballgame) Posted: March 14, 2013 at 10:26 PM (#4388688)
Bloomquist hit a game-winning homer in the 12th inning on August 25, 2010. It may have been his last extra-base hit.
   97. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: March 14, 2013 at 10:26 PM (#4388689)
zobrist is way better but when he's at the plate he's a dead ringer for dale sveum's stance back in the day.

just a dead ringer
   98. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: March 14, 2013 at 10:27 PM (#4388690)
geez ben, what are you waiting for? him throwing it underhanded?

it was right there sport
   99. Mess with the Meat, you get the Wad! Posted: March 14, 2013 at 10:28 PM (#4388691)
I blame this loss on Torre and his bunting fascination.
   100. JJ1986 Posted: March 14, 2013 at 10:28 PM (#4388692)
Victorino isn't that good against righties.
