I am sick of this low strike crap.
   102. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: March 14, 2013 at 10:29 PM (#4388694)
of course that was strike 3. it was within five inches of the edge of home plate per the rules

on replay it may have been a strike, may have been cant stress that enough
   104. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: March 14, 2013 at 10:30 PM (#4388697)
why the u.s. batters keep taking sh8tty pitches down the middle for strikes this inning is a mystery
   105. Gamingboy Posted: March 14, 2013 at 10:31 PM (#4388698)
Despite the result, this was a great game for the WBC. One of the best ever.

Also, fire Torre.

I want a rematch!

God this tournament is awesome.

players enjoying it like a big win!

It's a sad situation when you're glad for the game to be over just so you don't have to listen to the announcing anymore.

I'm watching the taiwanese feed tomorrow.
   109. Tschingsch Posted: March 14, 2013 at 10:31 PM (#4388702)
It's a shame the DR team and the people in the stands don't care that much about this game...
   110. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: March 14, 2013 at 10:32 PM (#4388703)
so take two pitches down the middle, thigh high then swing at a pitch around your shoulders

ted williams' head is spinning in its holding glass

The Red Sox would like to offer Ted Williams's head $14M a year.

That 9th with Kimbrel on the mound is the first and only half-inning of WBC I've ever watched.

Fantastic.

Erick Aybar gets hosed on a 1-1 pitch, announcers note that 1-2 or 2-1 is the biggest flip on success rates, man on 3rd with 1 out in a tie game, Kimbrel did not allow a single sac fly last year, Aybar isn't a slugger, he's doomed and - a line single for the lead.

this after he batted for the only batter in the game with no MLB ABs. then Reyes, we're told, is a ridiculous 5 for 6 againat Kimbrel - and singles to knock in an insurance run. and the crowd and dugout goes wild.

I'm ready for the regular season now!
:)

Pity I didn't see that Aybar "strike" live to make a humorous connection to his 2008 playoff "Not the bees!!" dance.

great ####### game example a for why the wbc rocks

This was one of the best games, but they've had a LOT of excellent games over the first three tournaments. Just this year The Cuba/Netherlands win or go home game was simply gangbusters, but lacked the massive crowd this one had. The Japan/Taiwan game was also friggin' amazing and had a similarly gonzo crowd.

I really wish I could force people who talk as if the players and fans don't care about the result to watch some of the tensest games, it's pretty much impossible to watch and still make that statement.

Also, I am going to hunt down that ############ with the air horn and shove it up his ass. Worse than a vuvuzela.
   117. Gamingboy Posted: March 14, 2013 at 10:41 PM (#4388713)
Also, Angel Hernandez is a blind man. I am reasonably sure we were about one or two bad calls away from both teams joining forces to rip him limb from limb.
   118. Gamingboy Posted: March 14, 2013 at 10:44 PM (#4388715)
Vogelsong will have the start tomorrow. I hope David Wright is able to get back from PSL in time for the game, although knowing the Mets medical staff they will probably recommend leeches to balance the humours.
   119. you mess with the meat you get the wada Posted: March 14, 2013 at 10:48 PM (#4388718)
indeed, though I didnt see the replay all the way through. I think the late throw is what made his decision.
   120. you mess with the meat you get the wada Posted: March 14, 2013 at 10:48 PM (#4388719)
Wright should have gone with the team usa doctors
   121. Jose Is The Most Absurd Thing on the Site Posted: March 14, 2013 at 10:50 PM (#4388720)
I watched the game without sound on my iphone. The pictures conveyed the atmosphere magnificently and no stupid announcing.
   122. Gamingboy Posted: March 14, 2013 at 10:59 PM (#4388723)
Actually, the more I think about it, there is no way that the Mets doctors will let Wright return to Team USA. Because... y'know... humours.
   123. RollingWave Posted: March 14, 2013 at 11:32 PM (#4388739)
It would have been for huge #### and giggles if Bloomquist had the last AB.

   124. RollingWave Posted: March 14, 2013 at 11:36 PM (#4388740)
David Wright need to shove bat down the Met's doctors and play. it's not like the Mets are going anywhere anyway.

   125. Gamingboy Posted: March 14, 2013 at 11:38 PM (#4388742)
Maybe he needs super-soldier serum...
   126. you mess with the meat you get the wada Posted: March 15, 2013 at 12:35 AM (#4388753)
of the us wins tomorrow does that mean geo starts the semis instead of the seeding game
   127. Weekly Journalist_ Posted: March 15, 2013 at 05:14 AM (#4388775)
The Puerto Ricans were my #2 rooting interest, but I really want USA to get another crack at the DR in the finals.

Also, how great is it that we are gonna get either a DR vs. HONKBAL rematch or a DR vs. Japan epic clash in the semis...
   128. Weekly Journalist_ Posted: March 15, 2013 at 05:16 AM (#4388776)
Also...forget Wright and call up Longo.
   129. Karl from NY Posted: March 15, 2013 at 02:21 PM (#4388991)
I had a bad feeling as soon as he came in without it being a save situation. I dunno why, but it seems like NOTHING GOOD EVER HAPPENS when a closer is used in a tied game.

Uh, what good could happen? The closer can't win anything. All he can do is keep it tied.

And selection bias - nobody notices if he does keep it tied since then the glory goes to the eventual game winning hit.
   130. Gamingboy Posted: March 15, 2013 at 03:34 PM (#4389022)
I sent the day 15 omnichatter in. Zobrist is starting at 3rd tonight. Headley will be the 3B if they make it to semis.
