HOW WILL THE ANGELS LOSE TODAY?!
   2. Panik on the streets of London (Trout! Trout!) Posted: April 17, 2019 at 01:16 PM (#5832864)
Big day game for the Metsies today. Need a nice game out of Wheeler.
   3. salvomania Posted: April 17, 2019 at 01:18 PM (#5832867)
Phillies did not score 10 runs in the first inning today.
   4. Joyful Calculus Instructor Posted: April 17, 2019 at 01:20 PM (#5832868)
Noon start for the Dodgers today. This is their chance to seize first place.
   5. Davo (Love Won The Battle Of Stalingrad) Posted: April 17, 2019 at 01:36 PM (#5832877)
Matt Boyd leads the Majors in strikeouts. Naturally.
   6. Panik on the streets of London (Trout! Trout!) Posted: April 17, 2019 at 01:51 PM (#5832881)
I am so fed up with Mets pitchers making good pitches and having them either fouled off or taken an inch off the plate. The Phillies and the Braves lineups are really good.
   7. salvomania Posted: April 17, 2019 at 01:55 PM (#5832883)
Christian Yelich did not hit a home run in his first AB against the Cardinals today. Updates will follow as the game develops.
   8. phredbird Posted: April 17, 2019 at 02:07 PM (#5832893)

yeah, here we go with a good start and now we gotta see if anybody shows up to pitch today.
   9. salvomania Posted: April 17, 2019 at 02:07 PM (#5832894)
With that RBI, Matt Wieters is now on pace to surpass last year's RBI total by July, in just 42 at-bats.
   10. salvomania Posted: April 17, 2019 at 02:11 PM (#5832900)
I much prefer the 2019 version of Marcell Ozuna. The 2018 Cardinals would have made the playoffs if they'd had this guy.
   11. Panik on the streets of London (Trout! Trout!) Posted: April 17, 2019 at 02:19 PM (#5832907)
Phils leave 'em loaded in the 3rd. Mets coming to bat in the 4th trailing 1-0.
   12. Davo (Love Won The Battle Of Stalingrad) Posted: April 17, 2019 at 02:51 PM (#5832922)
Anyone know what happened to Giolito? Pulled in the third with a no-hitter.
   13. salvomania Posted: April 17, 2019 at 03:28 PM (#5832969)
Brewers' pitchers have driven in a run in all three games, and have driven in 5 in the series so far..
   14. salvomania Posted: April 17, 2019 at 03:40 PM (#5832978)
Anyone know what happened to Giolito? Pulled in the third with a no-hitter.

GameDay note says he left with an "injured leg."
   15. Joyful Calculus Instructor Posted: April 17, 2019 at 03:57 PM (#5832995)
Dang. Gray is perfect through 3 innings with 5Ks.
   16. salvomania Posted: April 17, 2019 at 03:59 PM (#5832997)
Dang. Gray is perfect through 3 innings with 5Ks.

If he can strike out 16 of the next 18 hitters he could have both a perfect game and the single-game strikeout record.
   17. salvomania Posted: April 17, 2019 at 04:01 PM (#5832999)
Yikes, Mets make it tight against the Phils in the 9th, scoring a run to get within one and then loading the bases with two out, then having Neris go to a 3-2 count on pinch hitter Wilson Ramos before he flails at strike three to end the game.
   18. salvomania Posted: April 17, 2019 at 04:18 PM (#5833019)
Matt Wieters now has 5 rbi, and just 9 ab.

Teammate Dexter Fowler has 1 rbi, and 53 ab. (That said, Dex is off to a much better start in 2019, currently sitting at .264/.361/.321 after going 2-for-18 in the season's first week.)
   19. salvomania Posted: April 17, 2019 at 04:36 PM (#5833046)
Maybe the ump can't see Hicks's 102 mph fastball, because that last "ball one" was completely and comfortably within the boundaries of the Gameday strike zone.
   20. salvomania Posted: April 17, 2019 at 04:43 PM (#5833057)
Wieters may be the Cardinals' best back-up catcher since Ted Simmons backed up Joe Torre... or maybe when Yadi backed up Matheny...
   21. Howie Menckel Posted: April 17, 2019 at 05:06 PM (#5833091)
Anderson hits an early HR for White Sox, kind of an elaborate bat flip, comes up later, gets plunked in the back, jaws at the catcher and pitcher as he's walking to first, benches empty.

Anderson and the Royals pitcher both tossed (I think it was 2-2 in the 6th, no one on base).

all interested parties are asked to man the same battle stations as from the Archer/Dietrich HR/purpose pitch kerfuffle. #rinseandrepeat

per 17, that was Broxton who whiffed. Ramos was HBP to load 'em up before that.
   22. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: April 17, 2019 at 05:29 PM (#5833116)
I'm not exactly sure why Anderson was ejected there, hard to see what he did to deserve that. He actually seemed to be getting along fine with Maldanado escorting him to 1b. Of course, then the bases empty, and Joe West has quite the delicate sensibility so I"m sure he heard a word or two he didn't like. Also funny to see Renteria and Sveum jaw at each other.
   23. Howie Menckel Posted: April 17, 2019 at 05:52 PM (#5833129)
well, he jawed enough at the catcher that it led to people leaving both dugouts. that might be a threshold?

if Anderson just glared but then walked to first, no commotion.

but it's questionable.
   24. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: April 17, 2019 at 06:55 PM (#5833144)
The dugouts empty if someone looks at someone funny. That's ridiculous and you know it. Again, looked like Anderson and maldanado weren't even arguing, Anderson was patting him on the chest when everyone ran out.

Fwiw, Anderson publicly called Joe west a moron last year if you want to know why he really got tossed. Also, the Royals have complained about Anderson swearing after hitting a HR before. What a bunch of babies. I am not a Sox fan.
   25. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: April 17, 2019 at 07:00 PM (#5833147)
Happ makes Devers look dreadful in striking him out..
   26. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: April 17, 2019 at 07:00 PM (#5833148)
oooh, Vazquez! with the 2 run shot
   27. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: April 17, 2019 at 07:01 PM (#5833149)
That RF in Yankee stadium is a joke. Any hitter just pokes a fly ball out there and it's a homer
   28. It was something about the man-spider and sodomy, Posted: April 17, 2019 at 07:02 PM (#5833151)
Knew that was a NYS special when it left the bat.

Ugh.

J.A. Crapp, more like it ...
   29. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: April 17, 2019 at 07:04 PM (#5833152)
#28, I wouldn't be too concerned. With the way the Red Sox pitching is going, the Sox will need about 10 runs to win this.
   30. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: April 17, 2019 at 07:06 PM (#5833153)
The dugouts empty if someone looks at someone funny. That's ridiculous and you know it. Again, looked like Anderson and maldanado weren't even arguing, Anderson was patting him on the chest when everyone ran out.
Just saw the replay, and Moses is right. Anderson got tossed because of the whole "both sides" ethos that soaks everything, but he certainly wasn't the one escalating matters. This was all about the bat flip, and the Royals choosing to be offended by it.
   31. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: April 17, 2019 at 07:07 PM (#5833154)
Pedroia out of the game. Machado really wrecked this guys career when he deliberately spiked him in the knee in April 2017.
   32. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: April 17, 2019 at 07:10 PM (#5833155)
Eovaldi seems to be all over the place, will be lucky to last 5 innings...
   33. Howie Menckel Posted: April 17, 2019 at 07:11 PM (#5833156)
ah, I did not see the conciliatory gesture toward the catcher when watching it live. the benches shouldn't have emptied, but since they did, I guess Anderson got to be collateral damage.
   34. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: April 17, 2019 at 07:13 PM (#5833157)
Eh, Eovaldi done with 2 fairly easy, but I don't know, he doesn't look sharp.
   35. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: April 17, 2019 at 07:38 PM (#5833162)
That was a pretty ####### stupid play.
   36. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: April 17, 2019 at 07:39 PM (#5833163)
Happ tries the circus throw on a slow roller, looks foolish. Devers just ain't that fast, probably could've done a normal flick and got him anyway
   37. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: April 17, 2019 at 07:51 PM (#5833166)
NY gets one back, runners on 2nd and 3rd...
   38. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: April 17, 2019 at 07:54 PM (#5833167)
ooh, Eovaldi gets AAA guy to K on one in the dirt...
   39. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: April 17, 2019 at 07:58 PM (#5833168)
Pierce with the gold glove level play to save runs!

Good to see Frazier hitting; I love me some GGBG, but his time as a starter is rightfully come to a close when everyone in the OF is healthy (whenever *that* might be) ...
   41. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: April 17, 2019 at 08:12 PM (#5833172)
Man, I do love me some A-rod in the booth. The man just loves baseball, happy to admit that he's basically a baseball junkie. Always engaging, always entertaining. Sure, he got pinged for past transgressions, but how can you not like a guy who loves baseball as much as he does.
   42. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: April 17, 2019 at 08:26 PM (#5833174)
Eovaldi gets one a little outside for strike 3 against Voit, tough call.
   43. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: April 17, 2019 at 08:33 PM (#5833176)
Eovaldi gets another one just a tiny bit outside for strike 3. Dude is on 104 pitches, I'd bring him out for the 7th.

So the good. Price, E-rod and now Eovaldi all with goods starts in their last outings.
The bad. Sale and Betts still looks dreadful. Pedroia injured again, Bennie is injured and Devers looks lost against LH pitching

Well, he was the best of the 3 man booth when he was in there, but that's a very, VERY low bar to clear ...

Luke Voit ... 1st baseman like substance
   46. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: April 17, 2019 at 08:40 PM (#5833179)
Devers with a steal, no throw. Vazquez grounder to the right side, moves runner over. Red Sox going small ball to try to manufacture another run.

load em up up up !
   48. AndrewJ Posted: April 17, 2019 at 08:56 PM (#5833182)
Earlier today, in his 6,828th career plate appearance, Joey Votto popped up to the first baseman for the very first time. (h/t @MLBStats)
   49. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: April 17, 2019 at 08:57 PM (#5833183)
The Sox and Cubs really suck this year. I like it.
   50. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: April 17, 2019 at 08:57 PM (#5833184)
GARDIE !
   51. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: April 17, 2019 at 08:59 PM (#5833185)
Go Yardy !
   52. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: April 17, 2019 at 09:00 PM (#5833186)
Sox decide NOT to let Eovaldi pitch the 7th, now down 5-3. Baseball stinks this year...
   53. It was something about the man-spider and sodomy, Posted: April 17, 2019 at 09:00 PM (#5833187)
Yeah, like I said, it's time for GGBG to get ALL the starts!
   54. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: April 17, 2019 at 09:01 PM (#5833188)
Gardner is my favorite Yankee of all time. Period !

LOL ... a HR in 1/30 ballparks.

NYS taketh ... and NYS giveth back.
   56. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: April 17, 2019 at 09:07 PM (#5833191)
And the Bruins are winning, too. Nice one !

Nice of Nuney to swing at the 1st pitch following a walk ...
   58. salvomania Posted: April 17, 2019 at 09:33 PM (#5833195)
Looks like Pham's reaching-base streak is going to end at 47...
   59. salvomania Posted: April 17, 2019 at 09:34 PM (#5833196)
This will be his third game he hasn't reached base for the Rays since the Cardinals traded him.
   60. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: April 17, 2019 at 09:34 PM (#5833197)
Bruins win.
   61. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: April 17, 2019 at 09:35 PM (#5833198)
Yankees win.
   62. salvomania Posted: April 17, 2019 at 09:45 PM (#5833201)
The Rays reached base 17 times in 8 innings tonight, but none by Pham.
   63. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: April 17, 2019 at 11:25 PM (#5833218)
Angels down two in the 9th, bases loaded, and Justin Bour gets called out on strikes on a ball that blind man could have called a ball on. Bring on the robo umps.
   64. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: April 17, 2019 at 11:27 PM (#5833219)
Swept in Arlington again. I ####### hate Arlington.
