to answer phredbird's quewstion from last night:

altuve has some serious power for a guy who is 5-5 and he started hitting homers and not just cbox cheapos about 4 years ago

the other night he hit a ball so freaking hard it went OVER the train tracks and the silly STAT people said it was oonly 448'

i'm not sure exactly how they measure but they did a fer **** job

In 2013 the Dodgers trailed by 9.5 and won the West. Likewise, in 2014 they trailed by 9.5 and won the West. In 2016, they never fell quite so far, just 8 back at the time of Kershaw’s injury and they won the division again. And in 2018, they fell 9 games back and recovered to win their sixth straight division title. I know that the Dodgers’ run of titles will come to an end at some point, but really since 2014 they’ve always felt invincible no matter how far back they’ve fallen. I’m not worried about the current losing streak.

hey braves fans

are they still doing the beat the freeze race?

I’m not worried about the current losing streak.

Isn't the current losing streak, just a fact of them running into a superior opponent in a four game series? :)

j/k.... I'm optimistic about the Cards but even the Cardinal announcers stated flat out that they thought the Dodgers were the best team in the NL.
   6. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: April 13, 2019 at 01:18 PM (#5831465)
Orioles score two on a bases loaded single by...
   7. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: April 13, 2019 at 01:19 PM (#5831466)
I got to see it as it happened! I feel lucky.

I guess what they’ve been saying about the Red Sox starting pitching is true.

Somebody just beat The Freeze yesterday!

Still doesn’t look that great:

Just wait until Davis gets hits in all of his next 50 ABs.

The Terror Tot hit 4 homeruns in 3 games against the Yankees and every single one of them was a bomb.

Annoying when he plays against your team, but pure joy to watch.

On the other hand, I'd rather have a root canal than watch Greg Bird "hit" ...

I really hope they send him down to AAA when Stanton comes back.
   15. The Yankee Clapper Posted: April 13, 2019 at 02:28 PM (#5831493)
Sabathia has shut out the White Sox through 5, on just 1 hit, 3 K, 0 BB. Presumably done after 62 pitches, coming off the DL.
   16. It was something about the man-spider and sodomy, Posted: April 13, 2019 at 02:29 PM (#5831494)
CC coming out after 62 pitches, time for the bullpen; well, so much for this game ...
   17. It was something about the man-spider and sodomy, Posted: April 13, 2019 at 02:39 PM (#5831499)
So far, so good for German. When he can command, his stuff is nasty.
   18. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: April 13, 2019 at 02:47 PM (#5831501)
Hendricks continues to suck.
   19. The Yankee Clapper Posted: April 13, 2019 at 02:47 PM (#5831502)
Chris Davis now halfway to hitting for the cycle, with RBI double. 3-2 Orioles, Porcelllo out of game.

Davis is hitting .500 against Boston, .000 against everyone else.
   20. It was something about the man-spider and sodomy, Posted: April 13, 2019 at 03:14 PM (#5831505)
Hey, Tyler Wade did something positive with the bat!

Don't get cute here, Booney, German is cruising.
   22. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: April 13, 2019 at 03:22 PM (#5831510)
Heyward gets pitched around with runners on second and third, for a four-pitch walk. Strange days indeed.
   23. It was something about the man-spider and sodomy, Posted: April 13, 2019 at 03:27 PM (#5831512)
ALL RISE.

NYS RF special!
   24. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: April 13, 2019 at 04:19 PM (#5831525)
Albert Pujols pinch-hitting with two outs and the bases loaded, trying to reach back for some glory-day magic.
   25. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: April 13, 2019 at 04:22 PM (#5831527)
...and instead, all he has to do is not swing at anything, as Brach issues his third straight walk. This game felt pretty over when it was 3-1 in the 5th.
   26. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: April 13, 2019 at 04:25 PM (#5831528)
Also, we’re over two hours into a 4-2 game and not through the top of the 6th. There’s just absolutely no good reason for that.
   27. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: April 13, 2019 at 04:27 PM (#5831530)
Walk, walk, walk, pitching change, walk, pitching change. I’m done.
   28. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: April 13, 2019 at 04:27 PM (#5831531)
Maddon's on the hot seat and all that, but it's hard for me to see how this is his fault.
   29. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: April 13, 2019 at 04:28 PM (#5831532)
Can’t throw strikes to the mighty .154 hitter.
   30. The Yankee Clapper Posted: April 13, 2019 at 04:51 PM (#5831539)
3-hit (2 2B), 4 RBI day for Chris Davis against Boston. .079 BA for season.
   31. Random Transaction Generator Posted: April 13, 2019 at 05:05 PM (#5831542)
The Rays pulled Blake Snell after he threw 82 pitches in 6 innings and held the Jays to ONE hit. The score was 1-0, Rays.

The Jays jumped all over the first reliever and are now leading 2-1.

This is the third time the opposing team has pulled a start with 0 or 1 hits against the Jays, zero runs, and less than 100 pitches, and they've pounded the reliever that came in.

   32. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: April 13, 2019 at 05:24 PM (#5831545)
I was not optimistic about the Angels bullpen coming into the season, but early on they've looked really good. Sometimes, it seems, a random collection of guys who can throw 97 MPH can throw one shutout inning each.

is there some new rule that forbids starting pitchers from pitching more than 6 innings no matter HOW few pitches they threw or how well they are pitching because i am missing something here
   34. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: April 13, 2019 at 06:09 PM (#5831561)
Spoke too soon. Angel bullpen about to cough it up.
   35. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: April 13, 2019 at 06:12 PM (#5831562)
Oh, man. Goodwin drops a ball that was IN HIS GLOVE. This loss is going to hurt.

What a horrid AB from Willson. Just pathetic.
   37. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: April 13, 2019 at 06:18 PM (#5831568)
Welp, after four hours, the ump just handed the game to the Angels. Disgusting.
   38. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: April 13, 2019 at 06:18 PM (#5831569)
WOOOOOH BOY. Skin of their teeth, but a W is a W.

   41. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: April 13, 2019 at 06:18 PM (#5831572)
Just happy the Angels get at least one in Chicago without Trout.
   42. Misirlou doesn't live in the restaurant Posted: April 13, 2019 at 06:20 PM (#5831573)
pretty clear that Schwarber's initial comment on the call was F*** You!
   43. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: April 13, 2019 at 06:20 PM (#5831575)
As it should have been.
   44. Perry Posted: April 13, 2019 at 07:17 PM (#5831588)
Reds opening the game with a shift vs. Matt Carpenter, 4 OF and all 3 remaining IF on the 1B side. Carp hits a pop fly to left and it drops -- for a triple because nobody was covering 3rd.
   45. cardsfanboy Posted: April 13, 2019 at 07:19 PM (#5831589)
Goldschmidt's a bum.
   46. cardsfanboy Posted: April 13, 2019 at 07:21 PM (#5831590)
this stadium apparently doesn't have the same data collection capability as mlb parks...
game day has hardly any info on the pitches, tracking etc.
   47. cardsfanboy Posted: April 13, 2019 at 07:23 PM (#5831591)
really, hit the ball to Puig with less than two outs and a man on third?.....that is a death sentence to the runner.
   48. Perry Posted: April 13, 2019 at 07:25 PM (#5831592)
Well ####. At least Roark had to throw 29 pitches to get out of it.

McLaughlin said all the replays will be done locally, rather than NYC.

BTW it's 91 degrees at game time in Monterrey.

Both teams with Ford ads on the batting helmets. Bleah.
   52. cardsfanboy Posted: April 13, 2019 at 07:42 PM (#5831602)
Waino should be batting second..... lol
   53. phredbird Posted: April 13, 2019 at 07:52 PM (#5831607)

vamos cardinales! maldiciones a los rojos!
   54. cardsfanboy Posted: April 13, 2019 at 07:55 PM (#5831609)
Cardinal announcers "Wainwright has 149 wins in his career, in 29 different stadiums...."

this would be one stadium that not many people could claim to have a win in.
   55. phredbird Posted: April 13, 2019 at 07:56 PM (#5831610)

espero que waino lance bien esta noche.

   57. cardsfanboy Posted: April 13, 2019 at 08:01 PM (#5831612)
The long national nightmare is over, Goldschmidt with a base hit.

   70. cardsfanboy Posted: April 13, 2019 at 08:51 PM (#5831633)
shock of shockers, Ozuna with another baserunning mistake... or not... balk apparently.
   71. cardsfanboy Posted: April 13, 2019 at 08:52 PM (#5831634)
Cardinal announcers don't see a balk there, but if the ump says there is one, there must be one.
   72. phredbird Posted: April 13, 2019 at 08:53 PM (#5831636)

no hay palabras in espanol para TOOTBLAN. pero el arbitro dice que es un balk! suerte!

Given how awful the Dodgers’ rotation has been, that makes me kind of sad that they released Homer Bailey. However, I do expect that Bailey will be garbage going forward, just like he always has been.
