Clint Frazier taking advantage of his opportunity - and finally overcoming the Curse of Jose. If he can stay healthy - not that easy - he’s on track to be a regular, with Gardner reverting to 4th outfielder when Hicks comes back.

This is a ridiculously long review. What benefit could there possibly be to looking at it over and over? They can see what happened. Either it was interference or it wasn't. It's a judgment issue, not a fact issue.
   9. The Yankee Clapper Posted: April 20, 2019 at 02:07 PM (#5833762)
Need a side angle on that HR/interference call. Not sure the fan was over, rather than above, the wall. Needs to be definitive, and still looks murky to me.

EDIT: Replay says out for interference. Boone thrown out.

Hate to say it, but that was the right call. No question Gordon would've caught it.

The question isn't whether or not Gordon would have caught it, but whether the fan was reaching over the fence, right?

   14. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: April 20, 2019 at 02:11 PM (#5833768)
It's a travesty that they kick the fan out for a call so borderline that they spend 5 minutes reviewing it.

Tauchman swings the Hammer of Belated Justice, making it 5-0. Followed by LeMahieu upping it to 6-0.

That was pretty obvious if you saw the repeated replays. The YES announcers all agreed that he had.

Four home runs today, and the hardest hit ball by far was Judge's grounder to short, at 114+MPH.

I saw the replays - it didn't look that obvious to me. It looked like his hands were above the horizontal top of the wall, but didn't cross the plane to being above the warning track. Given that a ball that bounces off the top of the wall is a homer, I would think you have to cross over to interfere.

The straight on camera shot doesn’t give a great look at where the fans hands are, and may make it appear that he went into the field of play when he may not have. But where is the boundary? Does the outfielder get an unobstructed path to the back of the outfield wall, or just the front? There’s about a foot of space directly above that wall.

Sigh.

This year is totally cursed.

Lat or oblique on the swing.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuugh.
   30. The Yankee Clapper Posted: April 20, 2019 at 03:14 PM (#5833790)
Looks like Judge hurt himself on the swing for his single. Oblique? Left the game for a PR, and looked to be in pain/discomfort/knowing he was going to miss time. 2019 has been rough, health wise.
   31. The Yankee Clapper Posted: April 20, 2019 at 03:34 PM (#5833795)
If Judge goes on the DL, that’s the entire starting outfield, 3 starting infielders (plus Greg Bird), the starting catcher, 2 members of the starting rotation, and a premier set-up reliever who’ve unexpectedly missed time this year. Plus Jacoby Ellsbury. Most of those are still on the DL, and weeks away from returning.
   32. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: April 20, 2019 at 03:39 PM (#5833796)
Time to call up Logan Morrison.

3-hit game for Clint Frazier. Yankees suddenly dependent on him keeping it up & (KNOCK ON WOOD) staying healthy.

I blame the lack of vaccines to prevent New York from infecting you.
   36. cardsfanboy Posted: April 20, 2019 at 04:04 PM (#5833804)
Do the Yankees even have enough players on the 40 man roster to make a 25 man roster?

Lucky for Yankee fans, he's not going to go on the DL. Because there's no such thing anymore.

I get this is a baseball chat, but for those who are fans of teams who have NHL or even NBA teams in the playoffs, just curious, how strong is the relationship between the baseball team and the other team?

Cardinals are doing a post game show that is Cardinal announcers spending a crap ton of time talking about the Blues(NHL team) and they asked the question about whether or not other cities had that same symmetry between the sports teams where the team is actively rooting for the other franchise.. I imagine in Boston and Pittsburgh it's normal... but just curious about other cities? Do the baseball team genuinely actively advertise the other franchise post season?
   48. rconn23 Posted: April 20, 2019 at 07:03 PM (#5833849)
The Red Sox are predictably starting to play better and the Rays predictably are coming back down to Earth.
   49. Master of the Horse Posted: April 20, 2019 at 07:11 PM (#5833854)
47–the Packers and Bucks publicly rooted for the Crew last October. The Brewers talk about the Bucks regularly. Seems genuine.

Are the tv deals connected at all? The teams here tend to support each other (they'll make social media videos etc.). But I don't remember hearing much on the Rockies broadcast. They're on a different RSN. The hockey and basketball team basically have the same ownership and the sports network is owned by that group as well.

yes the tv deals are connected... (literally the Cardinals post game show tonight length was based upon when the pre-game show for the Blues game started... normally the post game show was half an hour, but the Blues game was about 2 hours away, so they decided that the post game show would last until the pre-game show)

   57. The Yankee Clapper Posted: April 20, 2019 at 07:32 PM (#5833863)
The Yankees are expecting Thairo Estrada to be recalled from Triple-A tomorrow to replace Aaron Judge (left oblique) on the active roster.

He’s a SS-2B guy, so that doesn’t do much for much for outfield depth, other than allowing utility guy Tyler Wade to play out there without weakening the infield depth. However, Estrada is the last remaining healthy non-pitcher on the 40-man roster, so pretty much the only option by default.
   58. Joyful Calculus Instructor Posted: April 20, 2019 at 08:15 PM (#5833868)
Chase Anderson had no command in the first inning. The Dodgers let him off the hook and now he's dealing.

   65. The Yankee Clapper Posted: April 20, 2019 at 10:48 PM (#5833888)
Gio Gonzalez has opted out of his minor league deal with the NYY. The Yankees now have 48 hours to put him on the active roster or release him. Gonzalez had a terrible first start at AAA, then started 2 games in which he gave up only 2 runs, striking out 18, with only 2 walks, over 11 innings. The Yanks rotation has been pretty good, so there may not be sufficient space, or need, to add Gio, who’d cost a bit. However, they have 48 hours, and I don’t believe they’ve gone that long without a significant injury this season, so things could change. Gonzalez seems likely to get a MLB spot somewhere off his recent performance and past record.

Stephen Strasburg facing the Marlins today with aplomb. He just notched his 41st career start with at least 10 Ks. He's at 82 pitches through 6 innings in Miami and has set down 8 consecutive hitters.

Based on this I fully expect Davey Martinez to push him to a complete game since he is terrified of his bullpen choices. He broke Max, next he'll break Stras. Lovely.

He started by robbing Teoscar Hernandez of a HR about a foot above the CF fence. Justin Smoak had to get back to first, and from deep center Laureano airmailed the 1B by several feet. So Smoak tried to get to second, but was thrown out by Nick Hundley who had been backing up the play.
