I never realized this until now, but you posted that comment just as the Angels were about to WIN their 2nd of 8 STRAIGHT GAMES.

So what's going on here? Whose payroll are you on? Why isn't Devin Nunes looking into this?
   3. Perry Posted: May 19, 2018 at 11:49 AM (#5675598)
Just caught this post from yesterday:

O'neil will have his major league debut tonight.... already in the field, and is scheduled to bat in the 8th at the worst(double switch he's in the ninth spot, fourth spot in the upcoming order in the 7th inning)

Actually O'Neill was up for a while in April, had 9 PAs in 6 games. Got his first hit last night though.

Don't start. I'm still getting over my brother pushing Killary conspiracies. My brother reads InfoWars now. Politics is the ####### worst.

This seems a good place to note that I get (mildly) annoyed when I realize that it is Saturday or Monday and Ohtani will most likely not see action.

Shows you how memorable his first stint was...
   7. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: May 19, 2018 at 03:10 PM (#5675652)
Are foul ball calls not reviewable? Billy Hamilton just struck out but the ump somehow decided that he foul tipped it. He struck out again, though, so no harm. Excellent Cubs debut by Rosario, coming in with runners on second and third with no outs and getting out of it without giving up a run.

Hey, I was just playing with you, but if you've really got a brother like that I can understand your reaction. And Happy Anniversary.
   9. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: May 19, 2018 at 03:19 PM (#5675657)
Sorry, Javy, but you don't have the right to talk #### at the opposing pitcher, or anyone for that matter, as long as you have that haircut.
   10. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: May 19, 2018 at 03:20 PM (#5675658)
Oh, I know you totally were. I'm just in a grumpy frame of mind. That's what five years of expecting my team to lose — and being in the midst of a 4-game losing streak — does to me.

HOW WILL THE ANGELS LOSE TODAY?!
   11. cardsfanboy Posted: May 19, 2018 at 03:27 PM (#5675663)
Close play on Pham's steal of second base.. I don't think the Phils will win the appeal as it was pretty much the definition of a tie.
   12. cardsfanboy Posted: May 19, 2018 at 03:32 PM (#5675668)
Now the Cardinals are challenging a play in which again it is very close, but I think the Cardinals are correct on this one and he should be safe.
   13. cardsfanboy Posted: May 19, 2018 at 03:37 PM (#5675671)
Phillies poor defense gives the Cardinals a run, and Gyorko jumps on the first pitch he sees for a two run single to tie the game up.
   14. Meatwad Posted: May 19, 2018 at 03:49 PM (#5675676)
Happ is a single shy of the cycle. He also has a walk today.
   15. Jess Franco Posted: May 19, 2018 at 04:05 PM (#5675685)
And thr Cards give two right back with a pair of poor fielding plays. Who says you can just stick a stiff who can hit at first?
   16. cardsfanboy Posted: May 19, 2018 at 04:07 PM (#5675687)
Gant didn't deserve the fate he got today. Poor managing by Carpenter(he should have stopped Gant from fielding that dribbler which was going foul) to multiple errors by Gyorko, has turned what was a solid performance into a poor looking one.
   17. cardsfanboy Posted: May 19, 2018 at 04:09 PM (#5675688)
And thr Cards give two right back with a pair of poor fielding plays. Who says you can just stick a stiff who can hit at first?

It's Gyorko's side arming that is the issue here though.
   18. Jess Franco Posted: May 19, 2018 at 04:13 PM (#5675691)
Rhys Hoskins is godawful in left. Santana is a big bat, but his aquisition weakened the Phillies as two positions.

The Phillies are a bad fielding team overall.
   19. Jess Franco Posted: May 19, 2018 at 04:14 PM (#5675692)
Still Martinez is a stiff. A good first baseman snares that.
   20. cardsfanboy Posted: May 19, 2018 at 04:16 PM (#5675693)
Still Martinez is a stiff. A good first baseman snares that.

Agree, he needs a lot of work on his footwork, he constantly is out of position to adjust for off target throws, and has a tendency to pull his foot off the bag early. But Gyorko needs to stop side arming the throws from short, especially when he has more than enough time to make a proper throw.
   21. cardsfanboy Posted: May 19, 2018 at 04:18 PM (#5675694)
It's about to rain hardcore at the game... at least that is the way it looks from my house. Thunder can be heard, the sun just got swallowed up by the clouds.
   22. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: May 19, 2018 at 04:19 PM (#5675695)

I bet a full-time move back to first base puts 100 points of slugging back on his slash line.
   23. cardsfanboy Posted: May 19, 2018 at 04:21 PM (#5675696)
Game being halted.... it makes no sense, there is no rain yet, why wouldn't you let them get the third out? This pretty much guarantees their starter doesn't get through five innings.

Edit: although the umps were right, they got the tarp on the field, immediately before it started downpouring.
   24. Perry Posted: May 19, 2018 at 04:22 PM (#5675698)
And the second they get the tarp on the field, it starts pouring. Good call by the umps, I guess, although I can see why Kapler was pissed that they halted the game with 2 out in the bottom of the 5th and this Phils up by 1, even if McCarver can't. Really, Tim?
   25. Jess Franco Posted: May 19, 2018 at 04:23 PM (#5675699)
I dunno about stopping that one with two outs in the bottom of the fifth and the rain still a few minutes off. So what if the infield gets a little damp?
   26. Jess Franco Posted: May 19, 2018 at 04:25 PM (#5675701)
It's so arbitrary. They let games go on in steady rain all the damned time. Obviously the downpour would have stopped play, but that decision was iffy, at best.
   27. Perry Posted: May 19, 2018 at 04:28 PM (#5675703)
McLaughlin says it's so dark at the ballpark that it looks like a scene from "The Natural." McCarver chimes in that the movie was filmed in Buffalo "in 1961 or 1962." Tim's definitely losing it.
   28. Jess Franco Posted: May 19, 2018 at 04:32 PM (#5675704)
I kind of enjoy senile color men.
   29. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: May 19, 2018 at 04:35 PM (#5675706)
Uh oh. Howie Kendrick has fallen, and he can't get up. He's grabbing his right hamstring.
   30. cardsfanboy Posted: May 19, 2018 at 04:42 PM (#5675708)
Rain has stopped, and game should be starting up soon.

edit: or not, as they still haven't removed the tarp even though the grounds crew is on the field.
   31. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: May 19, 2018 at 04:46 PM (#5675712)
2017 Justin Wilson comes in for the 11th. Game pretty much over.
   32. cardsfanboy Posted: May 19, 2018 at 04:46 PM (#5675713)
Reds are about to score a walk off against the Cubs... bases loaded no outs.... 4-4 bottom of the 11th.
   33. Jess Franco Posted: May 19, 2018 at 04:47 PM (#5675714)
The Hoskins/Santana thing will irk me forever....

What would Joe Maddon do?
   34. Jess Franco Posted: May 19, 2018 at 04:48 PM (#5675716)
He froze the kicker.
   35. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: May 19, 2018 at 04:48 PM (#5675717)
He's gonna walk in the winning run, isn't he?
   36. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: May 19, 2018 at 04:49 PM (#5675718)
Yes. Yes he is. Justin ####### Wilson, ladies and gentlemen.
   37. cardsfanboy Posted: May 19, 2018 at 04:49 PM (#5675719)
I kind of enjoy senile color men.

I'm fine with Mike Shannon, because he's not a judgmental a-hole, but McCarver is a judgmental a-hole and he infects the rest of the booth...

Walk off walk for the Reds.... (series of events walk, single, walk, walk..... maybe at some point in time you have to pull the pitcher)
   38. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: May 19, 2018 at 04:50 PM (#5675720)
Walk-off walk wins it for the Reds. That was hard to watch.
   39. Spahn Insane Posted: May 19, 2018 at 04:51 PM (#5675722)
Glad to see Justin Wilson still belongs nowhere near anything resembling a high leverage spot.
   40. Perry Posted: May 19, 2018 at 04:51 PM (#5675723)
My god, Bob Gibson looks fantastic at 82. Could pass for 20 years younger.
   41. Jess Franco Posted: May 19, 2018 at 04:51 PM (#5675724)
It was pointed out to me recently that visiting teams' bullpens are at a big disadvantage because of the variance in the mounds between pen and field, and unfamiliarity with both.

It's harder to come in and throw strikes.
   42. Jess Franco Posted: May 19, 2018 at 04:52 PM (#5675725)
Black don't crack.
   43. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: May 19, 2018 at 04:53 PM (#5675726)
Gotta save your closer for a lead that you might never get in either game today, dontchaknow.
   44. Spahn Insane Posted: May 19, 2018 at 04:54 PM (#5675727)
Good thing Maddon managered the hell out of the bullpen UNTIL he probably felt forced by lack of options to stick with Wilson...

I like Joe and all, but his bullpen management’s the weakest part of his game, and I don’t think it’s close.

   45. Misirlou doesn't live in the restaurant Posted: May 19, 2018 at 04:54 PM (#5675728)
JFC. If there is ever a situation in which you odds are highest for getting out of bases loaded no out without giving up a run, it's Billy Hamilton, then pitcher with no PH available. Walk, single, walk, walk. Pathetic.
   46. Spahn Insane Posted: May 19, 2018 at 04:56 PM (#5675729)
Perros, Wilson’s been walking about a batter an inning (on average—sometimes, you get the SuperJumboDeluxe Wilson we just saw) since about ten minutes after the Cubs traded for him last summer, regardless of where he’s pitching.
   47. Perry Posted: May 19, 2018 at 05:04 PM (#5675731)
Ozuna still wearing that godawful neon green sleeve all the time. You'd think that would violate the uniform rules; if it was an actual undershirt sleeve it would.
   48. Jess Franco Posted: May 19, 2018 at 05:07 PM (#5675733)
That one stayed up there long enough for Hoskins to look only slightly drunk trying to catch it.
   49. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: May 19, 2018 at 05:08 PM (#5675734)
I assume the sleeve has magic ion balancing powers or some such.
   50. Jess Franco Posted: May 19, 2018 at 05:09 PM (#5675735)
Walks will drive you insane, Spahn.
   51. Jess Franco Posted: May 19, 2018 at 05:13 PM (#5675737)
I like how Baron was working on his ball-protecting skills before the game.
   52. Jess Franco Posted: May 19, 2018 at 05:14 PM (#5675738)
Nice job by the Samoan.
   53. cardsfanboy Posted: May 19, 2018 at 05:21 PM (#5675740)
Tyler O'neil ties the game up.
   54. Perry Posted: May 19, 2018 at 05:21 PM (#5675741)
O'Neill with his first big league homer!
   55. Perry Posted: May 19, 2018 at 05:22 PM (#5675742)
Followed the next pitch by Baron's first hit.

EDIT: First Cardinal hit. Did not realize he'd played a few games for Seattle in 2015.
   56. Jess Franco Posted: May 19, 2018 at 05:22 PM (#5675743)
Get down in the count, get down on the scoreboard.

I shouldn't say it... but the Cards have good fans.
   57. Jess Franco Posted: May 19, 2018 at 05:23 PM (#5675746)
I dreamed about Fenway this morning.
   58. Perry Posted: May 19, 2018 at 05:35 PM (#5675748)
Hicks throwing 103 and still can't strike anyone out, despite what appears to be good movement.
   59. Jess Franco Posted: May 19, 2018 at 05:38 PM (#5675749)
Did I mention the Phils are terrible in the field?
   60. cardsfanboy Posted: May 19, 2018 at 05:39 PM (#5675750)
Another error by the Phillies... I'm thinking the field conditions aren't helping, but almost all the errors/mistakes today by both side, have been caused by rushing the play.
   61. cardsfanboy Posted: May 19, 2018 at 05:40 PM (#5675751)
Carpenter is looking a lot more like Carpenter the past couple of days.
   62. cardsfanboy Posted: May 19, 2018 at 05:41 PM (#5675753)
Now if we can get Ozuna on the hit train.
   63. cardsfanboy Posted: May 19, 2018 at 05:44 PM (#5675754)
That didn't go well....
   64. Jess Franco Posted: May 19, 2018 at 05:45 PM (#5675755)
If you are coming home, why turn around? Run through and make the catcher tag you.
   65. cardsfanboy Posted: May 19, 2018 at 05:46 PM (#5675756)
If you are coming home, why turn around? Run through and make the catcher tag you.

To give the batter enough time to reach first base.

And if you are lucky enough to force a run down, maybe even second base.
   66. Jess Franco Posted: May 19, 2018 at 05:49 PM (#5675758)
Holland. Good.
   67. cardsfanboy Posted: May 19, 2018 at 05:49 PM (#5675759)
There is the game.. Holland coming in. Matheny better have someone else already warming up for the inevitable two men on base that is going to happen.

Congrats Phillie fans on your victory.
   68. cardsfanboy Posted: May 19, 2018 at 05:54 PM (#5675760)
Someone else must be wearing Holland's uniform, he actually looked good against Altherr.
   69. Bote Man Posted: May 19, 2018 at 05:56 PM (#5675761)
Here I am scared of Nick Williams based on "all those home runs" he hit at Nats Park, but I see he only has hit 2 all season. Huh.
   70. Bote Man Posted: May 19, 2018 at 05:58 PM (#5675762)
Giants' Miguel Gomez comes to the plate with this slash line: .222/.222/.222 with 0 HR, 1 RBI. Neat.
   71. cardsfanboy Posted: May 19, 2018 at 06:00 PM (#5675763)
Holland blows a one run lead... shocker of shockers. Nobody would have ever thought that could happen.
   72. Jess Franco Posted: May 19, 2018 at 06:00 PM (#5675764)
Good thing the Cards are bad at fielding, too.
   73. Perry Posted: May 19, 2018 at 06:00 PM (#5675765)
How on earth did Ozuna ever win a Gold Glove?
   74. Jess Franco Posted: May 19, 2018 at 06:03 PM (#5675766)
Yes!
   75. cardsfanboy Posted: May 19, 2018 at 06:03 PM (#5675767)
And the Phil's take the lead....
   76. cardsfanboy Posted: May 19, 2018 at 06:04 PM (#5675768)
How on earth did Ozuna ever win a Gold Glove?

same way Jeter and Adam Jones did, people made assumptions for some reason.
   77. Jess Franco Posted: May 19, 2018 at 06:05 PM (#5675769)
I feel bad for Holland. Really only one bad pitch. If Ozuna doesn't badly misplay that Kingery double, it's only tied.
   78. salvomania Posted: May 19, 2018 at 06:05 PM (#5675770)

It's true, he hasn't pitched well, but he also hasn't had any luck/defensive support. And I'm not just talking about today.

That said, he had no business in a one-run game in the 8th. I get that they need to "get him right," but let him have success in a few low-leverage situations first. Matheny can't wait to make him the closer, I get the feeling that if he'd had a 1-2-3 inning today he'd have been closing tomorrow.
   81. Perry Posted: May 19, 2018 at 06:11 PM (#5675774)
And of course it doesn't help that they have about 6 relievers on the DL.
   82. cardsfanboy Posted: May 19, 2018 at 06:11 PM (#5675775)
Cardinals still have 6 outs to tie it back up....
   83. Perry Posted: May 19, 2018 at 06:12 PM (#5675776)
Gotta go, I'll leave the comeback up to cfb and phredbird.
   84. Jess Franco Posted: May 19, 2018 at 06:17 PM (#5675780)
Sliding headfirst into first is dumb. Even Kruk knows it.
   85. cardsfanboy Posted: May 19, 2018 at 06:17 PM (#5675781)
About the only thing McCarver said that might be right, he thinks running through first base is better than diving.
   86. cardsfanboy Posted: May 19, 2018 at 06:19 PM (#5675782)
Sliding headfirst into first is dumb. Even Kruk knows it.

About the only time I can see doing it, is if you are able to see that the throw is high and the first baseman has to jump. You slide to avoid the swipe tag...but I don't think it's possible to change your trajectory quick enough to do that.
   87. Jess Franco Posted: May 19, 2018 at 06:19 PM (#5675783)
Santana finds a nugget.
   88. Jess Franco Posted: May 19, 2018 at 06:20 PM (#5675784)
If the 1BM is off the bag, then yeah.
   89. cardsfanboy Posted: May 19, 2018 at 06:20 PM (#5675785)
Well that half inning went meekly.....
   90. cardsfanboy Posted: May 19, 2018 at 06:32 PM (#5675790)
McCarver is railing on the Phillie batter for stepping out of the box "he's not supposed to be doing this, it's not good tv, it's not fun to watch, it's not....blah, blah, blah."

   91. cardsfanboy Posted: May 19, 2018 at 06:33 PM (#5675791)
Cardinals about to lose another pitcher maybe.... Norris is showing signs of an injury...
   92. Jess Franco Posted: May 19, 2018 at 06:33 PM (#5675792)
I love Odubel.

Neris is warming up. Hope lives for Cardinals fans.
   93. Bote Man Posted: May 19, 2018 at 06:37 PM (#5675793)
Tonight's starting lineup for the Nationals in Game 2 of the double-header features these Batting Averages:

.500 Mark Reynolds (6 PA)
.292 Max Scherzer (24 PA)
.276 Anthony Rendon
.270 Trea Turner
.232 Bryce Harper

Adam Eaton out.
Daniel Murphy out.
Howie Kendrick out.
Brian Goodwin out.
Victor Robles out.

Kill me!!
   94. cardsfanboy Posted: May 19, 2018 at 06:38 PM (#5675794)
Munoz, Pham and Carpenter....I guess two out of three batters are good...and then probably Bader if the Cardinals get that far.
   95. Bote Man Posted: May 19, 2018 at 06:41 PM (#5675795)
Wham! Bam! Fanned Pham!
   96. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: May 19, 2018 at 06:44 PM (#5675797)
That looked like it hurt.
   97. cardsfanboy Posted: May 19, 2018 at 06:44 PM (#5675798)
And that is not a winner..... pfftttt....
   98. Bote Man Posted: May 19, 2018 at 06:44 PM (#5675799)
Tanks fer nuttin, Cards!
   99. phredbird Posted: May 19, 2018 at 06:44 PM (#5675800)
ugh ...
   100. Jess Franco Posted: May 19, 2018 at 06:45 PM (#5675801)
