HOW WILL THE ANGELS LOSE TODAY?!
   2. cardsfanboy Posted: September 22, 2018 at 02:18 PM (#5749545)
By being the Angels.....
   3. cardsfanboy Posted: September 22, 2018 at 02:23 PM (#5749549)
On replay, he was probably out, but I agree with New York, there isn't enough to overturn that call. (and yes I know the call went against my team...but the reality is that it's close enough that it's not something you really care that much if they got it wrong by a bit)
   4. cardsfanboy Posted: September 22, 2018 at 02:25 PM (#5749550)
Wainwright with 5 ip so far, 4 hits, 6 strikeouts and no walks... this is what you hope Wainwright is capable of doing going forward.
   5. cardsfanboy Posted: September 22, 2018 at 02:32 PM (#5749554)
I'm guessing Pierzynski and Waino got along well when they played together, because I can't imagine someone saying a comment like AJ did while not having a good relationship with the guy "Wainwright thought that was gone off the bat, but at his advanced age, the ball doesn't carry as well as it used to."

I said in the other thread I think Pierzynski is going to be the next big name national analyst and he's confirming that every inning I hear him.

HOW WILL THE RANGERS DRAG OUT TONIGHT'S GAME IN AN ATTEMPT TO DO ANYTHING BUT ISSUE RAINCHECKS … wait, I guess nobody cares :-D
   7. cardsfanboy Posted: September 22, 2018 at 02:49 PM (#5749565)
Wainwright pitching into the 7th inning.... only at 91 pitches so far.
   8. cardsfanboy Posted: September 22, 2018 at 02:51 PM (#5749567)
Aj just said "Shildt doesn't want Wainwright to get the loss, so if a man gets on base, I guarantee you that Dakota Hudson will enter the game...."

and every Cardinal fan says "well that pretty much guarantees a tie game then." I don't think Dakota Hudson has prevented any inherited runners from scoring.

Edit: okay, just 42% of his 12 inherited runners have scored.
   9. cardsfanboy Posted: September 22, 2018 at 02:54 PM (#5749569)
Ozuna with piss poor defense and a dumb throw puts men on second and third.
   10. cardsfanboy Posted: September 22, 2018 at 02:58 PM (#5749572)
Our defense sucks.

inherited runner scored, but not really sure I can blame Hudson for that.

Yadier ties it back up.... one hr away from a 20 hr season.

Andrew Baggarly @extrabaggs
Adam Wainwright threw a curveball and started walking off the mound before it was over the plate. Chris Shaw strikes out. Hitting is tough enough when pitchers don't know how to exploit you.
   16. cardsfanboy Posted: September 22, 2018 at 03:51 PM (#5749602)
good chance for another walk off from the Cardinals.
   17. cardsfanboy Posted: September 22, 2018 at 03:51 PM (#5749603)
Not a real sport, but Tiger Woods is dominating today.
   18. cardsfanboy Posted: September 22, 2018 at 03:55 PM (#5749606)
Yadier now has the most homeruns for a Molina.
   19. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: September 22, 2018 at 03:56 PM (#5749608)
I should know this already, but why the hell are the Cards wasting Carlos Martinez in the pen? Injuries?

Aj just said "Shildt doesn't want Wainwright to get the loss, so if a man gets on base, I guarantee you that Dakota Hudson will enter the game...."
I would certainly hope that Shildt isn't dumb enough to make decisions based on a pitcher's W-L record.

Lack of confidence. He's been brought back twice from injury and struggled/re-injured himself, so they decided that for the rest of the regular season to pitch him from the pen in hopes of preventing a reoccurance of his injury.

I'm pretty sure that is what did happen(Shildt not being stupid) .. since Shildt recognized that both of the hits that Wainwright allowed were weak hits and kept him in the game.

Got it, thanks.
   24. cardsfanboy Posted: September 22, 2018 at 04:05 PM (#5749616)
It's pretty funny, that regardless of what happened this season, that the rotation in the post season(assuming there is a rotation) is going to look suspiciously like the rotation to start the season... Mikolas, Wainwright, Flaherty and Martinez.
   25. cardsfanboy Posted: September 22, 2018 at 04:06 PM (#5749618)
Another dumbass defensive play/decision by the Cardinals there... No clue what the f Carpenter was thinking there.
   26. cardsfanboy Posted: September 22, 2018 at 04:09 PM (#5749622)
apparently the Nationals will not win the division like I predicted even late into the season (before their second fire sale)
   27. Bote Man Posted: September 22, 2018 at 04:10 PM (#5749623)
Andrew Baggarly @extrabaggs
If Dereck Rodriguez's season is over, his 2.50 ERA would be the lowest by a Giants rookie (minimum 100 innings) since Hall of Famer Hoyt Wilhelm in 1952.
   28. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: September 22, 2018 at 04:12 PM (#5749627)
Hell of a pitch by Martinez to get out of that spot.

Apparently the Nationals will not win the division like I predicted even late into the season (before their second fire sale)

The writing was on the wall by the ASB. The Nats on paper had a talented team, but between extended DL time of good starters, shallow MiLB depth, questionable management by Davey Martinez, and unwillingness/inability of Mike Rizzo to shore up weak spots (and protect his tender ego) they were doomed. I actually had low expectations coming into the season after the disappointment of the 2017 post-season. I'm actually more hopeful about next year for odd reasons.
   30. cardsfanboy Posted: September 22, 2018 at 04:19 PM (#5749637)
I just had zero faith in either the Braves or Phillies ability to win, it wasn't so much that I thought the Nats were "great" but that I didn't think the Braves were going to continue winning to the point that they break 85 wins.

   33. cardsfanboy Posted: September 22, 2018 at 04:21 PM (#5749641)
Tyler O'Neil is also having a good day with a walk off homerun... that kid has some major power.

GLEYBER! batting 9th is the dumbest thing ... ever.

McCutchen leading off, and has kicked ass for the Yankees so I can see that.
Judge second, makes sense
Didi third, makes sense
Stanton 4th makes sense
Hicks 5th makes sense
Andujar 6th makes sense
Voit---has kicked ass for the Yankees so that makes sense
Sanchez is the only guy that Gleybar is clearly better than as a hitter, and again there is a point to be made to move the better hitter close to the other better hitters.... I'm not sure where you put Gleyber in this particular lineup... every player except Sanchez in the lineup has produced a 120 ops+ or better.

I get arguing against the gods of small sample size with Voit and McCutchen but at the same thing, they have done what is expected of them.
   38. Bote Man Posted: September 22, 2018 at 04:31 PM (#5749649)

Bryce Harper's walk here in the first is the 125th of this season, a new career-high and a new Nationals record.

Do I hear an opening bid for Bryce Harper's services??

Noted rookie Victor Robles just banged a ball that bounded into the corner and rattled around like a pinball, then caromed back onto the field. Robles slowed down near 2B, but turned on the afterburners to get safely to 3B yet they called him back to 2B.

Why?? The ball returned to the field of play and was thrown back in so how is that an Automatic Double??

Fangraphs gave the Braves a 3.2 percent chance to make the postseason on March 28. The Nationals started with an 89.3 percent chance, peaked at 94.7 percent June 6. Now, they’re out.

The Mets TV broadcast is showing this 10 year old kid from Raleigh, N.C. who dresses up in full umpire gear and calls the game as it goes along. They interviewed his father who told them that he goes to Carolina Mudcats games like that. He wakes up and examines box scores on MLB.com to verify that ejections and replay reviews were correct.

Apparently the umpires are so starved for affection that they give him tours and he posed for a group photo with all 4 umps at home plate. He misplaced his ball/strike counter in the hotel room so the umps scrounged around and gave him one before the game. He is headed for an incredible heartbreak when he realizes that nobody likes umpires.

All things considered, it's got to be an incredibly shitty job. Years, and years of low paid apprenticeship, and the golden ticket if you are one of the lucky handful to make it to the top? A starting salary of $120,000, topping out at $350,000. That may sound like nice money, but that's the absolute pinnacle of the profession, which very, very few get to. And once they are there, on the road for almost 6 months, working what, 150 games a year, plus an unpaid month of spring training. Figure they are at the ballpark for 4 hours per game on average. Including spring training (say another 25 games), that's 700 hours. That's $171/hour (based on starting salary) for the absolute pinnacle of the profession, being on the road for 6-7 months a year, working an incredibly strenuous (think about wearing all that gear at Texas or St Louis in July) and stressful work that no one appreciates. No thank you.

OK, maybe he's slow to get started. And waddles slowly. And maybe he can't bend down to scoop up ground balls. And maybe he can't leap very high to snare line drives. But other than that what's your complaint?? They say he's fully healthy, after all.

So Yankees, Indians, Houston and Red Sox have clinched in the AL... and Oakland is likely to clinch in the next day or two. The al regular season for all intents and purposes is over... and there is a slight possibility of the A's and Yankees swap wild card spots, but that is pretty much it..

In the NL you have Atlanta has clinched.... and that is it... Cubs are just 1.5 game(probably 2.5 games ahead of the Brewers and have a three game series against them.... Dodgers are 1.5 games ahead of the Rockies but have no head to head games against them....and the Cardinals are just 2 games ahead of the Rockies for the last wild card spot.... we know that the NL will feature the Cubs, Braves, Dodgers in the posts season, and probably the Brewers with either the Cardinals or Rockies taking the last spot, it just depends on whether the Brewers or Cubs are the division champs and whether the Rockies or Dodgers are the division champs. Still a lot of games to be played in these last 8 or so days.

The Angels went into the bottom of the 8th with a 5-1 lead. It's 10-5, and they still need two get two more outs just to get out of the inning.

It's been such a very long time since this team had a really good bullpen, or even an average one.

ELIAS: No current pitcher on the Red Sox ever started and won a postseason game. They have combined for 19 playoff starts (Price–9; Kelly–4; Porcello–4; Sale–1; Pomeranz–1) with no individual victories. Price (two wins) and Kelly (one) both own playoff wins earned in relief.

According to Elias Yankees need 1 HR from the No. 9 spot in the order to become first team in history to hit at least 20 HR from all nine batting spots: No. 1 (26HR), No. 2 (38HR), No. 3 (25HR), No. 4 (41HR), No. 5 (32HR), No. 6 (24HR), No. 7 (22HR), No. 8 (24HR), No. 9 (19HR).

C'mon McCutchen, sweep the leg.

Cubs and Brewers are done playing in the regular season. Both teams close the season playing the Cardinals, Pirates, and a lousy AL Central team (in different orders).

oops... I for some reason thought that they played each other, knew it was a three game series against the same team that was in the central, and my brain conflated that to be each other... it makes it much less likely that the Cubs lose the division outside of a collapse then.

Cardinal announcers are pushing for Mikolas for the Cy...not to win... they pretty much concede that Scherzer should win, Degrom should be second and Nola and Freeland should be heavily considered, but that Mikolas should also be on the list of those receiving votes.

edit: and now they are going on an extended rant of loving on Degrom and his underratedness because of wins.

Len and JD did an impromptu “You can put it on the board....yyyes!” when Schwarber took Rodon deep. Awesome.

Schwarber’s first of the year off a lefty.

What's gotten into you? I'm hoping you're referring only to Schwarber's homer, because Hawk catchphrases are never, under any circumstances, awesome.

What in the hell is A.J. Cole doing in a Yankees uniform?

Quiet as it's kept, the back end of the Yankees bullpen sucks. And quiet as it's kept, if the starters keep leaving after five innings no bullpen can pick them up forever.

Not a big fan of Mclaughlin, but I love the fact that he is willing to brag about his three legged dog(not a euphemism)... I'm talking about a rescue dog he saved... I love animals, and think people that like animals, can't be all bad.
