HOW WILL THE ANGELS LOSE TODAY?!
   2. Bote Man Posted: September 08, 2018 at 04:32 PM (#5740953)
Dan Kolko @masnKolko
Nats say we’ll start G1 at approximately 5:15

No one present believes it, however.

What a crummy weekend. Cubs schedule has been rough, yesterday wasn't really a day off and they didn't call the get until 11pm. Mext off day is Thursday, which is the end of 23 straight days of playing. Cubs are also at the end of a 4 city road trip, so good thing they have a cushion.

Jamie Garcia starts game 1 today, Hamels game 2.
   4. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: September 08, 2018 at 05:36 PM (#5740966)
I can see why Garcia was available.
   5. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: September 08, 2018 at 05:39 PM (#5740967)
There's 17+ innings to go here. This could get hairy.
   6. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: September 08, 2018 at 05:46 PM (#5740969)
What a bummer unlucky inning. Could have gotten out of it with zero too.

HOW WILL THE CARDINALS REGRESS TODAY?
   8. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: September 08, 2018 at 06:07 PM (#5740977)
This game is over
   9. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: September 08, 2018 at 07:01 PM (#5740991)
Cubs defense has been... not good lately.
   10. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: September 08, 2018 at 07:03 PM (#5740994)
Those balls were pretty close, I thought.
   11. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: September 08, 2018 at 07:08 PM (#5740995)
Ugly as sin. Good night.
   12. The Yankee Clapper Posted: September 08, 2018 at 07:13 PM (#5740997)
Cubs not looking like the best team in the NL today, based on the score & sloppy play. 6-0* with Scherzer on the mound is a big deficit. Looks like they will get both games in, which makes for a long day., but the best chance for getting tomorrow's in would to play a triple-header going into Sunday. Supposed to rain pretty much all day tomorrow, with chance of precipitation not falling to 50% until 11:00 PM.

*Now 8-0.
   13. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: September 08, 2018 at 07:18 PM (#5740999)
With James Shields pitching, a Mike Trout homer was almost a certainty. First inning boom.
   14. cardsfanboy Posted: September 08, 2018 at 07:43 PM (#5741005)
Bases loaded nobody out, bottom of the first........and a passed ball.
   15. cardsfanboy Posted: September 08, 2018 at 07:44 PM (#5741006)
Cardinal announcers bagging on the Cardinals proclivity to strike out... this series it makes sense...12 innings 18 strikeouts.... McCarver "in a three game series against the Nationals, the Cardinals struck out 22 times.".....

that is well below the major league average I think.
   16. cardsfanboy Posted: September 08, 2018 at 07:44 PM (#5741007)
Now the Cardinal broadcasters have stopped with their non-stop blowing of Shildt, to spend non-stop time bagging on strikeouts....
   17. The Yankee Clapper Posted: September 08, 2018 at 07:53 PM (#5741011)
Nationals send Scherzer out to pitch the 9th at 92 pitches. They're up 10-1, and Max obviously wants to do it, but I wouldn't waste him at this point. Best to be cautious with premium talent.

EDIT: And 3 soft hits load the bases.
   18. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: September 08, 2018 at 08:00 PM (#5741013)
James Shields should not be allowed to pitch to Mike Trout. 2-run homer in the 1st, 3-run homer in the third.
   19. Bote Man Posted: September 08, 2018 at 08:01 PM (#5741014)
Max Scherzer, CG, W

Cubs 3
Nats 10/F
   20. cardsfanboy Posted: September 08, 2018 at 08:02 PM (#5741015)
17...if it was the 8th I probably don't send him out there, but the ninth and a chance at a complete game.... he goes out there.
   21. Bote Man Posted: September 08, 2018 at 08:06 PM (#5741019)

It took a #MoundVisit from Deivi to fire him up, but he did it. A bit shaky in the 9th before that, though. I couldn't believe Max hit for himself in the 7th with the rain falling again and a big lead, that's criminal. Well, good for Max, I hope this helps him get paid or win Cy Young/Walter Johnson Award or whatever additional benefit it brings.

ATTENTION: JORGE LOPEZ IS PERFECT THROUGH 5

On the off chance you guys weren’t watching this scintillating Twins-Royals matchup.
   24. puck Posted: September 08, 2018 at 08:33 PM (#5741030)
Ugh, why do the Rockies announcers need to shine every player so hard.

I can't tell if it's getting worse or if I've just reached my limit.
   25. cardsfanboy Posted: September 08, 2018 at 08:35 PM (#5741031)
Cardinals season is going to end because of a three game ass whipping delivered to them by the Tigers.

I was thinking the same thing. Every time I mention the Cards hopefully they lose.
But there is still reason for hope. The Tigers do suck, objectively.
   27. Davo and his Moose Tacos Posted: September 08, 2018 at 08:38 PM (#5741033)
The cleanup hitters in this game are Hunter Dozier and Logan Forsythe. Both are slugging under .400 on the year. Both are slugging under .400 for their careers.
   28. cardsfanboy Posted: September 08, 2018 at 08:40 PM (#5741036)
Dejong homers and the dugout has no excitement at all..... seriously this team just doesn't seem to have any passion right now...
   29. Davo and his Moose Tacos Posted: September 08, 2018 at 08:42 PM (#5741037)
18 up, 18 down in KC

   33. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: September 08, 2018 at 09:01 PM (#5741050)
Cubs going up against a fellow named Jefry Rodriguez in the nightcap. Very efficient speller, that one.

The Rockies broadcast team is what a baseball broadcast would be like if Scott Boras had script approval.
   42. Davo and his Moose Tacos Posted: September 08, 2018 at 09:12 PM (#5741060)
The guy with the perfecto is the prospect they got from Milwaukee in the MooseTacos trade.
   43. cardsfanboy Posted: September 08, 2018 at 09:15 PM (#5741062)
Tim McCarver must not have access to the internet.

"it would be interesting to see how many at bats Carpenter has with 3-2 count."....this is something that should be easily available to every announcer with 10 seconds of work...click on bb-ref, click on cardinals, click on carpenter, click on splits, click on 2018, scroll down to Count/Balls-strikes and see that Carpenter has 124 pa with full count this year.... it's not that hard.

of course without context it doesn't really matter, but c'mon navigating bb-ref 101 should be a normal skill required for every broadcaster.
   44. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: September 08, 2018 at 09:16 PM (#5741063)
it's not that hard.

says 18 up, 18 down while having fun.

Ozuna could really put his name on the short list for NL player of the week right here......
   47. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: September 08, 2018 at 09:20 PM (#5741069)
lol, OZUNA !

HE'S GON TAKE IT TO THE 9TH
   52. cardsfanboy Posted: September 08, 2018 at 09:27 PM (#5741075)
Coming into tonight.... for the week Ozuna was .444/.444/1.111/1.556 with 4 hr..... an 1 for 4 with a homerun makes it .409/.409/.917/1.33.... so yes a 1 for 4 night with a homerun hurts his numbers but gives him 5 hrs for the week.

According to BBRef, this is Lopez's 11th ML start.
   55. Ziggy's screen name Posted: September 08, 2018 at 09:27 PM (#5741078)
Lopez has really good movement. which I guess should be expected when you're throwing a no hitter, but it's still noticeably excellent tonight.
   56. cardsfanboy Posted: September 08, 2018 at 09:28 PM (#5741079)
looking like another walk off win for the Tigers....
   57. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: September 08, 2018 at 09:29 PM (#5741081)
Meanwhile, the Cards are trying to lose the already lost game again. Kudos to them !
   58. puck Posted: September 08, 2018 at 09:30 PM (#5741082)
I wonder if MLB Network will flip over for the bottom of the 9th. They're showing Mets-Phillies here, and it's 9-2.
   59. Davo and his Moose Tacos Posted: September 08, 2018 at 09:30 PM (#5741083)
The guy who made the final out of the 8th....he missed a double by about a foot, sharp liner down the line in left, just foul.

They're showing it here in Chicago.

Charlie Blackmon cranks one to make it 4-1 Rockies over the Dodgers in the 5th. They entered the game a half game up on the Dodgers.
   62. BDC Posted: September 08, 2018 at 09:33 PM (#5741088)
Two home runs today for Adrian Beltre. They move him past Carlos Delgado for 32nd in career HR (474), into a tie with Paul Waner for 17th in career Hits (3,152), past Cal Ripken for 27th in career RBI (1,696), ahead of Ken Griffey Jr. for 14th in career Total Bases (5,279), and ahead of Sam Rice for 66th in Career Runs Scored (1,516).

Whit Merrifield ... I just love the name.
   64. Tom Nawrocki Posted: September 08, 2018 at 09:34 PM (#5741090)
Blackmon's having kind of a down year, but that was his league-leading 101st run scored of the season.
   65. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: September 08, 2018 at 09:36 PM (#5741091)
Full Attention on the ... Royals and ... Twins... how totally surprising and unnecessary.

Do it , Loserpéz !

C'mon MLBN, switch over. The live look in thing isn't working for me.

Birds with back-to-back walk-off losses to the Tigers so far this series... can't wait to see what tomorrow brings.
   68. salvomania Posted: September 08, 2018 at 09:38 PM (#5741096)
I wish the Cardinals had one decent, reliable bullpen arm, now 140-some games into the season.

Alright ... here we go!!!
   70. puck Posted: September 08, 2018 at 09:39 PM (#5741099)

They had that nice little August run, but they've looked for the last week the way they looked for the first four months of the season: an average and highly flawed team that shouldn't sniff more than then remotest edges of the playoff hunt.

Baseball sucks !

Noah Syndergaard on the comebacker off his ribs: “That’s been my nightmare ever since I started playing baseball. Today was just my judgement day of having a screamer come back at me.

“Everyone’s asking if I’m OK. I’m just concerned if the ball is all right.”

Damn. Bottom 9th, 1 out, tie game, runners on second and third. And.....David Peralta is at the plate and Paul Goldschmidt on deck.

I mean, sometimes, ever so rarely, being a manager is really hard.

Nationals come back in 7th to take a 6-5 lead, and then after the top of the 8th, the rain begins again. Tarp on, and it looks like it will rain until Sunday night, Probably some unhappy Cubs when this gets called about 3:00 AM.
