BTW, I like interleague play, but if it means no more visits from Mets and Phillies fans, I can do without it.
I mean who schedules the Yankees and a fireworks display for the same series? The Yankees are going to get you 50,000+ people and the fireworks is going to do that too.
The Brewers would for the longest time schedule the Cubs for the summer months during the weekend which made no sense. You are going to get a ton of fans at those games so why take away from dates that were already going to be popular?
I know those examples are not solely marketing problems but they are just some of the mind boggling stuff I've seen that MLB does to dig themselves into a hole.
And boy, how Arizona has fallen. Their young players seemed to be garnering them a pretty big media bandwagon. Guess that's what a loss of Webb will do for you.
Edit: No more Pirates, actually. I'll say uncle.

I'd agree but there is some sense to throw your best when the best is on field too. Or to make the special extra special.
Of course, there should be marketing efforts during the perceived lesser scheduled games too.
this has nothing to do with the marketing as you mentioned, but the schedules are made by people independent of the league. There is a lot of things I would do differently with the schedules if it was allowed to make sense. Last week we had a day with only two games being played, that should never happen, one of the scheduling rules should be no fewer than five games on any day. The one you mentioned is also silly, I understand why it happens and the fact that if it's on a weekend you can drive in visitors for the local games therefore maybe somewhat helping the local economy. But at the same time there needs to be thinking about how to maximize attendence, weekend games should be mostly with the lower drawing teams if you are in a city which has strong attendence, in cities with weak attendence to maximize you put your best attending games on the weekend.(I know that sounds counter intuitive but a team that is only drawing 10,000 is going to increase attendence more by scheduling a desireable weekend series and a less desireable weekday series than the other way around)
To entice Orioles fans to buy tickets, which reduces the number of fans of the visiting team.
I wonder if they give bobble heads to fans of the other team. Ah ####, I just gave
Lionel HutzAlfred Rava an idea.Sometimes it might seem otherwise, but I have a suspicion that both teams compete to win games.
But out-of-towners tend to get to the ballpark a lot earlier, so a lot of the hometown folks get shut out at these promotions while Yankee fans take their Nick Markakis t-shirt home to use as a sham-wow substitute.
The Phillies this past week have been in the "Otherwise, Definitely Otherwise" category.
Honestly, what is the big deal here? It's baseball. Just baseball. I wish people would just get the #### over it.
And this is coming from a Jays fan that just watched his team get shut down by the ####### Nationals.
