The Dolphins and Sun Life Stadium officials are working furiously this week to cover the infield dirt with natural grass to avoid any potential disasters like the Dolphins faced in the first preseason game, when torrential downpours turned their game against Tampa Bay into an ugly slop-fest. The team is hoping to cover up all evidence of the baseball field for Sunday’s national TV broadcast.
The Marlins still have four more home games remaining, a four-game set against the Pirates from Sept. 30 to Oct. 3.
They just left town today, giving the grounds crew four days to plant the grass and let it take hold. The crew will then have another four days to remove the grass and prepare the baseball diamond for the Marlins’ season-ending series, Sun Life Stadium executive George Torres said.
Reports that workers mistook David Samson for a garden gnome remain unconfirmed.

1. RB in NYC (Now with New iPhone!) Posted: September 26, 2010 at 04:38 PM (#3648720)I thought meathead NFL fans just go ga-ga over that kind of ####.
Most NFL fans have zero knowledge of or regard for football history and tradition - actively aided by the league - and so the idea that a 13-10 slopfest in poor conditions is way more football than 42-35 on pristine fieldturf doesn't make sense to them.
I'm with Flynn. Just like a good baseball game is 4-3 with one home run, a good football game is 13-10 with one big pass.
So it is safe to say that nobody remembers fondly the 0-0 tie played on November 11, 1939 game between Texas Tech and Centenary (La.). The two teams combined for 77 PUNTS (67 of them on 1st down, including 22 consecutive punts during the 2nd half), 30 total offensive yards, 33 offensive plays run, as the teams had to deal with a constant downpour of rain in Shreveport. TTU punter, Charlie Calhoun punted 36 times for a total of 1,318 yards. You want to talk about records that'll never be broken.
Unreal. It's not unfair to say that the lousy sodding job may well have cost the Dolphins this game.
Did the WR run on the same lousy sod? Shitty field conditions effect both teams equally.
So you're saying there's an upside?
WR's have a huge advantage over DB's on lousy sod. DB's need to react; WR's know where they're going.
OK, how about this question - Did the Jet's DB's have to run on the same sod?
