What Could Have Been: Michael Young & The Blue Jays

Everyone knows that Michael Young has become a superstar playing for the Texas Rangers, but what you might not know is that he was originally drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays back in 1997. In this article, we take a look at what might have happened had the deal never taken place.

Would the Blue Jays have become the power house of the AL East? Would Young have still blossomed into a star player? It’s really anyone’s guess, but here’s a look at my take on it.

If you didn't know Michael Young was drafted by the Jays then you must not have watched a Jays broadcast in the last 3 years. I'd be willing to bet there are a few casual Jays fans who are only aware of Michael Young as "that guy we traded away" and aren't 100% certain what team he's on or what position he plays.

He has become an All-Star, and deserved it, but you have a low threshold for "superstar" if he's your idea of one.

has established himself as one of the best fantasy shortstops in all of baseball

And now he has to work on the goal of becoming one of the best real shortstops :)

If you're going to register here to post your own blog posts under the name of Roto Professor, you might want to avoid making obvious mistakes, like getting park factors wrong, spelling Frank Catalanotto's name wrong, and mischaracterising the Stewart for Kielty for Lilly trades.

Or making ridiculous diction, punctuation and grammar errors. "Without further adieu," indeed.

Also, as a final note, conclusions are nice in speculative pieces. "Maybe it would have helped or actually rather maybe not" doesn't make for very compelling reading.
