Okay, just get him out of there NOW.

Mets TV coming back from the break showed the entire '69 Mets team singing "Ya Gotta Have Heart" in suit and tie on the Ed Sullivan show. Nolan Ryan was predictably too cool for skool to sing. But damn some of those guys were goofy looking! Amazin!

I think I'm just going to keep repeating "They have three home games left against Baltimore" to myself all weekend.

Could've been much worse. Good job, Robby.

P.S. This is the best home plate ump I've seen in a long time. He's making the pitchers EARN their called strikes, no giving them an extra 2 or 3 inches on the outside corner or below the knees.

We've secretly exchanged Andy's regular home plate umpire for a robo-ump. Let's watch on hidden camera to see if he notices.

Seven walks on one side, none on the other. No wonder you feel that way.

Hey, I'd go for it. Wouldn't you?

Who in the #### needs "personalized" strike zones, especially when 90% of them favor the pitchers?

Hey, don't blame the ump for your Wild Man of Valencia.

Kerwin Danley is a 26-year veteran.

Fangraphs says he had the worst single strike-called-a-ball instance in the first half this year, on a pitch by the White Sox Dylan Covey in a game against the Cardinals.

Aw, yeah, Yankees giving away an extra run by playing truly amazingly screwy defense.

HA!

Great PA by X-Man after falling behind 0-2.

2 runs on a sac fly. Not pretty, but I'll take it.

I will admit, not watching any game, but went to MLB to check a few things, and clicked on standings and was surprised...

1. it took like a quarter of a second to load... which is something that MLB.com has tried to avoid on every page on their site for 10 years.... quick load times is absolutely something that they oppose as a mortal enemy.

2.and the look was massively different... and initially I of course disliked it... but took a deep breath and re-looked at it, and it's cleaner and has more information.... so again, I'm surprised that MLB.com actually did something worth a crap on their website...

Still has the idiotic concept of making sure that scores are the last thing to load, since of course that is the only thing most people are going to the site to see. (but even that they cleaned up...of course it probably helped since there were so few games, but it was only a second or two delay between the rest of the site loading up and scores vs the normal 5 or so seconds)

Forget about #117, just let the manager bat.

Gotta bring Wright back in the 8th, don’t you?

Jeter sold you Stanton for pennies on the dollar. I think that counts for something.

I guess Nick Johnson could never stay healthy enough to live up to all that hype. I remember the Nats had him for a while.
   122. Bote Man Posted: September 20, 2018 at 10:26 PM (#5748536)
McNeil made a half-hearted bunt offer at a pitch on his way to pulling back the bat, but D.J.Reyburn says "STEEEEE-RIKE!" at which point Mickey Callaway came A-FLYIN out of the dugout in a rage and was summarily ejected. McNeil later struck out for the 1st out of the 10th inning in our Nation's Crapital.

Lehrer could not be reached for comment.
   123. cardsfanboy Posted: September 20, 2018 at 10:26 PM (#5748538)
with 4 out of 8 games going on, right now the average runs per team is 6.4375....it's a high scoring night.
   124. Bote Man Posted: September 20, 2018 at 10:27 PM (#5748539)
I guess Nick Johnson could never stay healthy enough to live up to all that hype. I remember the Nats had him for a while.

Nick had the reputation of a solid contact hitter, but you're right that he couldn't stay on the field. Austin Kearns didn't help by smashing Nick's leg into a billion pieces, either.
   125. Chip Posted: September 20, 2018 at 10:32 PM (#5748542)
Chapman unable to command his fastball four batters into his first post-DL appearance, and David Cone is already concerned.
   126. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: September 20, 2018 at 10:32 PM (#5748543)
yes, love to see Chapman suck it. Do not like that guy.
   127. Chip Posted: September 20, 2018 at 10:33 PM (#5748544)
Chapman thanks the Baby Jesus for the existence of Sandy Leon and his wondrous ability to swing through cement mixer sliders.

Sits on a shitty slider and destroys it.

Mookie says FU, the AL East is ours!

I should hate Betts, but I can't.
   132. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: September 20, 2018 at 10:38 PM (#5748554)
Oh and you can throw in Mookie's MVP award also along with the East crown.

Not-so-fun fact: Stanton and Starlin Castro have identical 3.2 WAR this year.

Betts is just fun to watch. Any player from any team who is fun I like. Baez is a hoot, Lindor is good value, guys like that. Guys that do a lot of things well and seem to really enjoy themselves.
   136. Chip Posted: September 20, 2018 at 10:53 PM (#5748565)
Cone joins in Snapper’s critique of Boone’s lineup construction, highlighting the fact that when Cora leads off with Betts it means more big late ABs for him, while Torres is just getting his 4th PA with 2 outs and none on here in the 8th.
   137. ERROR---Jolly Old St. Nick Posted: September 20, 2018 at 10:53 PM (#5748566)
Yeah, about the only Hubster I can work up any real dislike for is Kimbrel, and that's only because he looks like such a creep with that FMITA pose.

Meanwhile, we're now at 4 hours 43 minutes and still going strong. Five hours is within easy reach.

Boone laughs maniacally and makes a platoon pitching change down 5 with one out and none on in the 9th.

Yep!

Just noticed for the first time now that the stands are almost empty in the Bronx that idiot Marlins guy is behind home plate.

So far.

Steven Wright deservedly awarded the win, as far and away the most effective pitcher for either team on the night.

Nice that this is done.
I'm really sure how good that upcoming Indians series is going to be. Neither has anything really to play for at this stage other then personal milestones for each player.

Felicidades a Alex Cora. He becomes the first Puerto Rican-born manager of an @MLB postseason team -- on the anniversary of the date Hurricane Maria made landfall on the island he loves so much. @RedSox @MLBNetwork

OK, so, first of all, they clinched an MLB postseason berth like a week or two ago. And second of all... Really? He's going to cite a natural disaster in a celebratory tweet?

Putz.

I like that tweet. Cora has been vocal about his concern for the island and mentioned Puerto Rico in his postgame comments.

ah, good point in 157 and 158. no controversy intended here.
