Aside from the obvious money, perhaps the Mets wouldn't guarantee he'd close.

Closer role. Contender. Midwest.

At the price he went for, which seems like a bargain, I figured the Cubs would've been in on this.
   4. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: January 14, 2018 at 10:07 PM (#5606490)
He probably didn't want to go to a team that's known for playing Screw the Closer.

I don't see this as a selling point. Though not everybody is a born New Yorker.

He signed a two year contract for a job in which he will spend less than 4 months per year at "home" and 90% of those days are travel days or night shifts. Odds are his agents rent him a furnished apartment in a neighborhood he will never explore, but I suppose it's also possible that he just lives in a hotel.

It's reported he wanted to play in the Midwest. Minneapolis is a nice city. In the summer.
