Coming into the year, I felt this was going to be the best Dodger team of my lifetime. They are, but it's interesting how differently they're going about it. I wasn't anticipating Gonzalez and Urias to be hurt and ineffective (though in general injuries will always happen) and I thought Forsythe would be better. I did not expect Bellinger to be called up before September, nor for Chris Taylor to morph into a George Springer clone (still not totally sold on the idea that he won't go back to playing like meh utility guy, though), nor for Alex Wood to have a 1.56 era.

Alex Wood to have a 1.56 era

I was wondering why that didn't lead the league, but Wood is a few innings short of qualifying.

Wood hasn't been in the rotation absolutely every turn this year (just 14 starts), but there are several pitchers up among the league leaders in Starts who aren't eligible for the ERA title, either. Most extreme is a guy named Chad Kuhl, of Pittsburgh, who has 18 starts (the league leaders have 19) but not enough innings. Matt Cain has 17 starts and is ineligible.

Looking back randomly at years past, I guess it's not all that uncommon. Kuhl and Cain are T-16 and T-31 respectively in Games Started, and even back in the 1970s there would be guys who were in the top 40 in the league in Starts without having enough IP for the ERA title. Usually such guys are also having weak years, of course, so nobody cares whether they're eligible.

Everyone's been cool on Alex Wood for his entire career because he has one of those "soon to be injured" pitching motions. But he can pitch.

Friedman and Co. have put together a pretty good team. But they won't get thr credit until they've won the Series.
