Except by the Indians.
That's because the team you root for isn't playing.
OH #### YOU UGGLA.
And for all the lead-up to it, it was a real snorer. I mean the actual ending, the episode was decent enough, but the "OMG FINALLY GONE" was completely dull.
Also, did I imagine Amy being a famous model? It never came up again. PLlblblblblblbbbbbbbbbb Moffat.
Braves becoming unraveled.
True, sorry didn't mean you have to like it, but the teams went into the season knowing what it takes to make the post season and the results if they don't win the division.
I don't see why the team with the fourth best record in the NL has the right to complain about having to play the team with the fifth best record in the NL. When it's possible that the team with the best record in the NL is going to be forced to play the team with the fourth or fifth best record, and having to wait a day to figure out where they will have to fly out to.
The Indians were the best team in baseball how many times? How many times were they the second best? Once, and they lost to the best that year. The Braves were probably the best team at least seven or eight times, and one the World Series once.
I'm sure Joe K. has said something offensive over the OTP thread that demands immediate contradiction.
4th best record in MLB.
Sam gets berated for not watching, I get chastised for watching. I love this site.
Unfortunately, 95% of baseball fans don't understand this. And 95% of posts I'm reading right now are calling the Braves chokers. For most fans, this is the game that matters. This is the game that defines the season.
And that bothers me. Maybe it shouldn't, but it does. The Braves had a very good season regardless of how this silly Selig short-attention span game ends.
Come on. He's a baseball fan, and his team is in the game. Baseball is like crack. You can't get away from it, even if you want to. I virtually checked out for a lot of this season because I hated the new format, but my girlfriend pulled me back in by deciding to be an Orioles fan. Now we're sitting here together ######## about how they have to get eliminated in just one game, though it's a little better since they'd have been in a one-game playoff for the wild card under the old rules, too.
100 percent this.
They are behind the Nationals and the Reds and tied with the Giants. That is fourth best in the NL, or you can call it third best either way, the Cardinals are only one spot behind them in the Nl.
If we want to get technical, this format was decided pretty late in the game.
Bill Simmons having trouble.
And the Cardinals were six games back.
I thought the chatising was uncalled for.
Disgraceful that TEX and BAL should be in this one-timer while DET skates in with the same record as STL.
That is a better complaint than the silly "fourth best record in baseball" selective argument that was originally presented.
Well, technically, TEX and BAL would be playing the game tonight no matter what, since they tied for the best WC record...
Of course, under the old format the Orioles and Rangers would still be playing each other.
Even though as a Nats fan I fear the Cardinals...Jesus Christ they're doing it again.
That's the entire point of these threads, right? I mean, that's what I plan to be doing in them. Give DA Baracus a break.
It's the same argument. The Braves were the better team over 162 games in many ways.
Sam gets berated for not watching, I get chastised for watching. I love this site.
Yeah, my comment was over the top. I'm sorry. I'd forgot you were a Braves fan. My point was, you said it was "unexciting". And I didn't mean "love it or leave it" - I really was just sort of curious. If you don't like the format and don't find it exciting, why watch?
And forget my comment about no shame. There would have been no shame losing 4-2. But the defense has not been good (I missed Chipper's error).
Braves have a better record than 12 NL teams, the Cardinals have a better record than 11 NL teams.
The TBS main feed didn't even catch it until after it happened, so it was really bad camerawork all around.
But, at the end of the day, my Braves haven't actually WON anything in these two seasons. Neither season comes anywhere close to the pain and anger of 1997.
Yeah, MLB.com games are sometimes awesome, sometimes really not.
So were the Nationals over the Braves.... The Braves should be happy to be in the dance at all. It's bad enough for the Nationals that they have to play a team that couldn't win their division.
All that said, I'm still glad it's looking like the Nats won't face Medlen. That guy gives me hives.
Yeah, that's a serious waste of resources - the Cards will give you more bang for your buck.
That's a fine argument if you want to go back to 2 divisions. But with 3 divisions having a team take a week off is a bug not a feature.
That is a stretch to be honest. Cardinals only have made it to the playoffs twice since 2006. If your only qualifier for best team is win loss record, then you are looking at it wrong. The Cardinals had better Run differential than everyone but the Yankees and Nationals. Had a six season stretch from 2000-2005 where they averaged 95 wins a year(and won only 83 in 2006 then won the world series)
It's all good, I've been drinking. No harm, no foul.
Three times.
Bring in Rosenthal!
Edit: never mind
Lassus, surely this must be bittersweet for you, to see your greatest foe go down so quietly...
Did I miss Kenny Rogers choking on a chicken bone?
Errr... okay... one of your greatest foes going down so quietly....
Heh. It's not that bitter. Sorry, Braves fans.
Yeah obviously he was trying to go into RF and score two, but... it just didn't work out. Holliday just showed him how to do it.
He was on the Daily show(or Colbert report) this week(I can't remember, I don't watch any of their interviews that feature entertainers) I thought according to the star(or enquirer etc) that he was supposedly dying.
The pitcher?
