I'm a Cardinals fan, so I just stood back and observed -- and ducked. Good to see Braves fans showing some passion.

Yeah, but they're the O's. The Rangers are better at almost every spot on the roster.
O's also usually seem to beat the Yankees when I'm covering the game, which I will be Sunday if this holds up.

I wasn't watching the Skyfall trailer, just listening to the dialogue. Assumed it was a trailer for "Taken 2", until the very end when the music started.

Are they going to start pinch-hitting with LHB at some point?

Edit: Aha, here's one. Mitch Moreland for Soto.

This is a fun game for this neutral fan (well okay I'm rooting for the O's but I will be rooting for either team against the Yankees so may as well start the positive feelings now).

I was on a plane watching the NL wild card game (thanks Virgin America!) and when the infield fly thing happened the whole plane murmured in disbelief.

Hard to believe the Angels didn't think O'Day wasn't worth protecting from the Rule 5 Draft a few years ago.

They must have thought he was too stereotypically L.A., and they wanted to get away from the "yacht rock" sound.

Ron Washington strikes again!
   826. Crispix reaches boiling point with lackluster play Posted: October 05, 2012 at 11:07 PM (#4256270)
Well they certainly couldn't have used Moreland to pinch-hit for Michael Young.

This isn't really that relevant, with the 1-day rosters not needing starters Washington should have plenty of pinch-hitters avai...wait, the Rangers have 11 pitchers on their roster? Then why did Holland come in the ga... never mind.
   828. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: October 05, 2012 at 11:07 PM (#4256273)
A few years before that, they didn't protect Bobby Jenks, either — they held a spot to protect Josh Paul, a third-string catcher. It's amazing the talent that's fallen through.
   829. Kiko Sakata Posted: October 05, 2012 at 11:08 PM (#4256274)
There goes the DH.

That seems inexplicable (I know, Ron Washington is the Rangers' manager is a perfectly reasonable "explanation"). Who couldn't see this coming? You might want to pinch-hit Moreland for Soto. How can you accomplish this without losing the DH? I dunno, maybe starting Napoli at 1B and having Young DH? Pinch-hit Moreland for Soto, move Napoli to C, leave Moreland in the game at 1B. Do the Rangers seriously not have somebody who can help Washington out with this kind of stuff?

late to the thread, but anyone have the Win Probability for Braves before and after "the play"?

I always find it fun that so many fans get just as outraged at a call like in the Packers-Seahawks game on last play, as something not quite as game-changing as that....

Joe Dimino tweeted 13.5% as called vs. 26.2% if they'd called it correctly.

According to THT's win prob (with a 4.5 RPG environment), the Braves would have had a 24% chance of winning if the call was made correctly, and had a 10% chance of winning after it was blown.

EDIT: Coke to Kiko. FG has it at 9% after the bad call (13% before he play).

Let's see ... MLB.com says he's taller than everyone except Jim Johnson.

Pretty unusual catcher.

13% before the play

Looking at Dimino's tweet again, it's not clear what the 13.5% was for - it could have been before the play.

For the last 4 half-inning breaks I've flipped over to MLBN; they've been in commercial break also. Wouldn't that be the perfect time to deliver "content"? I'm certainly not going to stick around to watch commercials if I've already flipped channels AWAY from commercials.

Going back to April of this year, I'm pretty sure that I wouldn't have been terribly excited to see Brian Matusz facing Josh Hamilton, and 3-pitch strikeout would have been WAY down the list of likely outcomes.

My post #812 originally noted that MLB Network was airing Joe Torre and Co. facing the Inquisition over The Call, but I figured other remarks around mine were already discussing it. I came in late to the party.

The DirecTV listing does say "MLB Tonight: Wild Card Edition", but every time I've flipped over there, even just now during the inning, they've been showing ads. I guess they have to find some way to pay Harold Reynolds for his irreplaceable "analysis".

edit: WOO HOO! Actual programming just now (23:35 EDT). Greg Amsinger, Cal Ripken's lil bro, John Hart, and...wait for it: Omar Vizquel.

The league is going to drop in the umps from the Braves/Cardinal games, and add a few of the replacement refs from the NFL (the ones that were fired by the lingerie football league for incompetence)....then they are going to force the Orioles to use the Cardinals bullpen. Trout has been traded to the Rangers for the rest of the game.
