Come on, Johnson.
Don't #### up the first leg of Buck Showalter's \"#### you, former teams!"

After this, he's got a chance to do the NY leg.

Sadly, the Arizona leg will have to wait for the next tour.

Bases loaded! Time to tie the game, then take a series of five different leads, then lose.

I doubt that an infield fly rule that late in the ball's flight with the fielders in those positions has been called in the last 40 years of major league baseball.
I suspect that the bail itself was what triggered the umpires call. IE, he won't admit it, but he was over-complacent; Kozma LOOKED like he was going to catch the ball- it surprised everyone when he bailed out. The ump panicked, and made a last-minute gesture to try to protect the braves' baserunners- had the runners been tagging up (ump in that position had no way of knowing), and had Holliday been in position to back up Kozma, and then done the baseball-correct thing post-bail (pick up the ball and throw it to third), it could have been a double play. At worst, it would have been very close. Instead, Holliday wasn't in the right position, and then did the "wtf gesture" and made everything look worse than it was.

Either way, the umpire fail on the strike-out/home run was much more significant, in terms of WPA. Almost double, in favor of the Braves, so there's really no room for the braves fans to complain.

As you know, MARC trains don't run on weekends. However, I know someone who took a Greyhound from behind Union Station on to the Inner Harbor.

I was thinking I'd have to take a bus back. It appears I can take light rail up to the game but will have to take a bus back.

And yeah, no car.

Hmm, Megabus for $10 at 11:00pm seems like it will work. 6:00pm game right?
   934. Best Regards, President of Comfort Posted: October 06, 2012 at 12:17 AM (#4256432)
McCoy, if you stick around the park long enough on Sunday, I'll give you ride back home. I may be there for an hour.

Also, come to the press box before the game, I'll give you game notes and lineups, if we have them.
   935. Best Regards, President of Comfort Posted: October 06, 2012 at 12:18 AM (#4256434)
Yep, 6:00pm.

Considering it's the Yankees, 11:00 may be pushing it.
   936. boteman digs the circuit clout Posted: October 06, 2012 at 12:19 AM (#4256435)
#933 - You might investigate one of these deals where a sports bar sponsors a bus from their bar to the game and back. You get a ride both ways geared specifically to the game, and booze to boot. Might be worth it.

McCoy, Primer Mail me your cell number. If things fall apart postgame, you have a backup ride home.

Former Cardinal Torre upholds the call? Shocking.

Torre's career by games played:
Braves 1037
Cardinals 918
Mets 254

Haven't you ever heard of the one-drop rule re: Cardinal players?
   946. McCoy Posted: October 06, 2012 at 12:28 AM (#4256454)
I've got an extra ticket to game 5 of the NLDS in DC. I smell a trade of services and goods.

What a shitty day of baseball.
   948. boteman digs the circuit clout Posted: October 06, 2012 at 12:30 AM (#4256460)
Brady Anderson? Is he just hanging out or does he hold a position with the team?
   949. Best Regards, President of Comfort Posted: October 06, 2012 at 12:36 AM (#4256466)
Anderson is an instructor with the O's.

What time is last call in Baltimore? I just noticed that the MARC starts up again at 5 in the morning.
   951. Best Regards, President of Comfort Posted: October 06, 2012 at 12:38 AM (#4256471)
Ha.

Don't stay too late in Baltimore. You may get stabbed.
   952. Best Regards, President of Comfort Posted: October 06, 2012 at 12:39 AM (#4256473)
You may want to look up a hotel room for Sunday night. The light rail will be running postgame, so that expands your range down to the airport and up to Hunt Valley.
   953. charityslave is thinking about baseball Posted: October 06, 2012 at 12:41 AM (#4256474)
If the O's beat the Yanks, this postseason will be awesome, no matter the final outcome.
   954. Best Regards, President of Comfort Posted: October 06, 2012 at 12:43 AM (#4256476)
You know, I didn't think the Yankees would make the playoffs this season. When they had that big lead, I was shocked. When they started to blow it, I dreaded them finishing second, or even out of the playoffs. But they hung on.

If they lose to the O's... I can live with that.
   955. McCoy Posted: October 06, 2012 at 12:46 AM (#4256478)
For those keeping a journal of my movements my plan looks to be that I will take the light rail up to Camden Yards during the day and then after the game I have bought an Amtrak ticket as my first option and if I miss that train I have a megabus ticket for 1:00 am to DC. Amtrak leaves at 10:40 and gets into Union station before the red line closes so if I make it in time I can take the metro home.

Amtrak-$16
Megabus-$10.50

   956. charityslave is thinking about baseball Posted: October 06, 2012 at 12:52 AM (#4256487)
Slow down, McCoy! I can't keep up and now my notes are all messy.
   957. toratoratora Posted: October 06, 2012 at 12:53 AM (#4256488)
Last call is 2 AM. Hit Sliders if you wanna drink by the stadium-it's a fun place.

The Rangers are dead, so this postseason is already pretty awesome.
   959. zachtoma Posted: October 06, 2012 at 01:46 AM (#4256530)
I don't think I have ever heard a stadium boo one of its own batters more than Josh Hamilton has been booed in this game. Pitchers, yes.

I know, they're turning into Yankees fans over in Arlington.
   960. zachtoma Posted: October 06, 2012 at 01:50 AM (#4256536)
PS I guess you could say that baseball's first-ever Wild Card round is... for the birds.
   961. Belfry Bob Posted: October 06, 2012 at 01:59 AM (#4256547)
Anyone here going to be there on Sunday?

Will be there both Sunday and Monday. Have long-time Birds in the Belfry friends driving in from Chicago, Dayton, and Indianapolis. Weather looks bad for Sunday, but it's going to be amazing!
   962. Jolly Old St. Nick Still Gags in October Posted: October 06, 2012 at 07:59 AM (#4256604)
The forecast for Baltimore for tomorrow is a high of 57 with an 80% chance of rain. This may be the 1979 World Series deja vu all over again.
   963. Jolly Old St. Nick Still Gags in October Posted: October 06, 2012 at 08:06 AM (#4256610)
BTW on StubHub the Nats tickets are quite a bit cheaper than the Orioles tickets. Probably the difference in regional demand between the Yanks and the Cardinals.
   964. McCoy Posted: October 06, 2012 at 09:10 AM (#4256633)
Oh, geez. I guess I should have checked the weather first before buying tickets.
   965. BDC Posted: October 06, 2012 at 09:22 AM (#4256639)
Congratulations to the Orioles and their fans – sharp play last night in Arlington.

So... since there's no thread for today's games, should we reuse this one? Or use the actual Game Chatters?

Also: Coco Crisp? Sure, why not? Hardly the unlikeliest thing that's happened in an A's game this year.
   967. Baldrick Posted: October 06, 2012 at 06:31 PM (#4257043)
We should use this one. Gamechatters are far, far off the mainland.
   968. Mayor Blomberg Posted: October 06, 2012 at 09:44 PM (#4257268)
There's a game chatter for today's games, guys.
