Wilson Ramos Placed On DL, Expected To Be Sidelined Beyond Non-Waiver Trade Deadline

With teams like the Nationals and Astros at least exploring the market for catching upgrades, the Rays were a near-certainty to cash in on Ramos and land a new prospect or two to add to their minor league ranks. That now looks unlikely — at least in the month of July. It’s possible that Ramos could return at some point in August, though it’s doubtful that he’d clear waivers. Still, that doesn’t necessarily preclude the possibility of a deal coming together.

Wilson Ramos just can't get a break, Part IV.

This is a guy who was kidnapped in his home country of Venezuela, had not one but TWO knee injuries, and now this. We saw what kind of a welcome he got back in D.C. for the ASG. Maybe the Nats will redouble their efforts to acquire Realmuto, but the Nats have so many problems that I don't see how a band aid at catcher is going to provide a meaningful boost by itself.

Couldn't the Rays just take him off the DL? He's only on the 10-day, he'd be eligible to come back the 27th, right? If they are set on trading him, and they should be, you'd think they could deal with a 24-man team for a few days so they could get a trade done with whomever they wanted.

I think players on the DL can be traded regardless - it just requires approval by the commissioner's office, right?
