Woman accused of stalking Cubs’ Theo Epstein

You know…that “Varla” Satana look is just so yesterday.

A Massachusetts woman was arrested in Wrigleyville Monday night and charged with stalking Chicago Cubs President of Baseball Operations Theo Epstein.

Kathleen Kearney, 44, from Canton, Mass., was charged with two felony counts of stalking, according to police News Affairs Officer Laura Kubiak.

Kearney was arrested shortly before 6 p.m. in the 1400 block of West Addison Street, near Epstein’s home, Kubiak said.

It’s not the first time Epstein, who was hired in October by the Cubs after nine seasons as the general manager of the Boston Red Sox, has had problems with a stalker.

Between this and Cashman, GMs are apparently quite the hot ticket item among the mentally unstable set.

Maybe she was just waiting for Southport Grocery to open. Their bread pudding pancakes are freaking phenomenal!

I'm surprised he bought a place that close to Wrigley.

Don't forget Steve Phillips, as well.

She wasn't stalking him, she just enjoys Starbucks every now and again.

Looks like he rents, actually. Only one candidate property in the area.

(scratch that, found it.)

Damn nice house.

Jed Hoyer's cuter than Theo.

Yeah - he bought... IIRC, I think he actually stole the place out from under Patrick Sharp who ended up needing to purchase a Lakeview hovel.

Billy Beane thinks its better to be stalked by one woman than a thousand Primates...

The article says he bought it-

That’s just blocks away from the 7,800-square-foot mansion Epstein bought shortly after he landed the Cubs job.

I don't remember that. This says it was new.

He was being stalked by the Cheri Oteri character who was addicted to prescription meds.

Here ya go -- Sharp originally wanted Theo's place, but Epstein outbid him...

Actually, that woman looks more like a Gilda Radner character. Truly startling.

The article says about Kearney:

Authorities had trouble tracking her background because her fingers are scarred and she is even missing some fingertips, Scaduto said.

In court, Kearney’s public defender Amand Sundaram noted Kearney had worked at a Le Cordon Bleu culinary institute in Boston.

I'm wondering if the first sentence might explain in part why she no longer works there. Maybe she missed a lot with the knife while chopping? Yipes.

Based on the Google Streetview, Sharp ended up in pretty nice digs himself. I've walked by it before, but it never really stood out. I'll have to pay more attention next time. I pulled up an address for Theo, but based on street view, it's not the same house, unless they tore the old one down and built a new one. Lots of athletes in this general neighborhood. Duncan Keith is a few blocks away as well.

Yeah... I've been on and near the "Southport Corridor" for about 10 years now and I can quickly feel myself being priced out of the area. When I last lived directly ON Southport, there was a crappy convenience store under the el tracks, a crappy laundromat on the corner of Roscoe/Southport, and a better but still crappy laundromat (but with a bar attached!) a few blocks down on Newport. Now the crappy convenience store is a really nice wine & spirits retail shop, the crappy laundromat is a sushi place, and the laundrybar is now some fru-fru high-end spa type place.

At least Lange's is still around... for now...

Stupid gentrification.

Perfection in an art demands devotion, and she'll be damned if she serves up sub-par ladyfingers...

Fixed. Seriously, that place is a joke when it comes to beer prices.

Anyway, I'm not sure those types of establishments are really being completely displaced in Lakeview. You only have to walk a few blocks to Belmont and Southport to find a crappy convenience store. And while I suppose I don't know of any laundromats in the immediate area, the place is still lousy with dry cleaners. And in addition to Lange's, there's still Higgins' Tavern just a couple blocks away. I think most places in the city in general have just gotten nicer over the last couple decades.

What kind of mental health system does IL have? I see an involuntary commitment in this lady's future.

Yeah - but they've got a good selection (of beer and wine)... I'll agree on price -- there's a place two blocks west on Ashland that has my two current favorite beers (Rogue Dead Guy and Delirium Tremens) $2 cheaper per 1 1/2 pint/6 pack -- but the Galleria's wine selection is top notch.
   24. Never Give an Inge (Dave) Posted: July 17, 2012 at 06:38 PM (#4185318)

In fact, Kearney got a masters in library science from Simmons College in 2002 and also earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Harvard in 1989.

And she was stalking a Yalie? Unacceptable, especially with Paul Depodesta several hundred miles closer.

I thought Newport's was the laundrobar.

I'll give you the wine. Their beer selection is average at best. The Whole Foods on Ashland has a tiny beer section but a better selection. I don't know if you're talking about Armanetti's for beer, but they're out of business. It's another wine store now. It's just as well, since from what I hear their manager was a total dick. West Lakeview liquors is pretty cool though, about a mile further west on Addison.

Pretty damned poor, apparently, considering that Ozzie Guillen didn't benefit from treatment at all.
