Wondering if Jiménez is making his final start with Orioles - School of Roch

He’s had an interesting career.

Hmm, Jimenez seems like he has a pretty standard career in that he was a guy with tremendous stuff/velocity whose results declined as his stuff declined. His average fastball velocity used to be 97.3, now it's 91.5. That's probably even more of a decline considering it seems like the average fastball velocity has increased as well league-wise.

BB-ref has the Rockies paying about $5.2 million for 18.6 WAR.
Cleveland $9.95 million for 1.8 WAR.
Baltimore $50 million for 0.8 WAR.

What's maddening about Jiminez is that he'll still put up a terrific start just when you're least expecting it, but the problem is that this happens about once a month, and the rest of the time he's about the worst starting pitcher in baseball. The only role any team should ever trust him with should be mopup work in games that are already lost, and pitchers like that can be had for chump change for teams that really want them.

Impressive durability both within and between seasons. # of starts 34, 33, 33, 32, 31, 32, 22 (injury), 32, 25, 25. He was pretty stinky by the time he got to those 25 start years so I suspect he was only asked to start 25. That might be as few as 10 missed turns in 10 years.

The stuff has faded but he's maintained a solid K-rate and it was mainly the walks that were killing him (this year the HR rate ballooned too).

If Jimenez leaves, who will Buck turn to for his high-leverage innings in elimination games?

Well not Zach Britton, we know that much.
