World Baseball Classic News Mid-Day 12-22: Wright, Derosa say yeah. Busch and Mastercard pull out

Robothal says Mark Derosa has signed up for the Red, White and Blue as a utilityman:

DeRosa’s ability to play all four infield positions and the outfield corners should make him valuable to Team USA manager Davey Johnson.


In what seems to be a trend for sponsors in professional sports, Busch and Mastercard have pulled backing from the WBC.. Which is proof that the Belgianized Anheuser-Busch cannot be trusted.

Jeff Passan bemoans the large number of declines from US players- especially pitchers.

Finally, the NY Post reports David Wright has officially said yes to his invite and has been guaranteed to be the main 3B for Team USA. Also: Evan Longoria hasn’t been invited by Team USA- but he has been invited by Mexico. No news on what he said.

Oh, and Andrew Jones is trying to get on the Dutch team. But that was already posted.
