World Baseball Classic Update (October 1st, 2012): Japan chooses manager? King Felix is in for Venezuela.

Felix Hernandez has said he’s in for Team Venezuela next spring. He’s already begun working out a plan with the Mariners’ team trainer to figure out a way to get his work in and such. Also, Erasmo Ramirez is interested in pitching for Nicaragua this November and Michael Saunders says he would take an invite for Team Canada.

Meanwhile, in Japan, they have “unofficially” selected the manager for Samurai Japan. Apparently having given up on their plan for a active manager to be the Japanese team’s year-round coach, they are apparently going to approach Koji Yamamato (a Japanese HOFer, former manager of the Hiroshima Carp and former coach for the National Team) about the job.

The local media is worried that infighting between the CPBL and Taipei’s baseball association could torpedo Chinese Taipei’s chances in the WBC.

Finally, not directly WBC related, but the IBAF has news and photographic proof of baseball in Iran.

Apparently Iran favors small ball.
