He was the only guy before Albert to have 5 hits in a WS game. Good luck hearing that as they talk about Ruth and Jackson...

Well, Zooey Deschanel is singing the National Anthem, so I think we can check that one off. Saw her hubby's band last night in Seattle. Really enjoyed it, although I almost never go to arena shows (I think the last arena show I saw was The Cure in 2004). I'd forgotten how crap the sound is inside a concrete basketball arena, though...

I'm sure, for her, this is paltry consolation for Fox tabling her new series for a few weeks due to the World Series, despite getting good ratings...

Mine was The (horrific) Who (Maggie Bell opened) in 1974 at MSG...thankfully CBGB's was right around corner where nobody bugged you for innocently throwing up.

New Girl is probably going to get picked up for a full season run, so I'm sure she doesn't mind much. Besides, most series go into holiday hiatus in Nov until Jan, and again for a month between Feb-March. Its pretty damn odd now that I think about it. In an era of more serialized shows, you'd think networks would try to do as many weekly new eps to prevent discontinuity.
   13. Dag Nabbit has the talking pillow Posted: October 23, 2011 at 10:34 PM (#3972500)
Let's see, St. Louis is the team with home field advantage in the Series (not tonight's game of course, but the Series as a whole), and have won 2 of the first three games.

Looking it up, in the previous 14 World Series in which the team with the overall home field edge won exactly two of the first three games, they went on to win the world crown 13 times. (2010 SFG, 2009 NYY, 2002 ANA, 2001 ARI, 1997 FLA, 1995 ATL, 1993 TOR, 1991 MIN, 1988 LAD, 1987 MIN, 1983 BAL, and 1982 STL).

Only one of the 14 teams with the home field edge in the Series and a two-games-to-won blew it: the 2003 Yankees.

Go back a little earlier and things change - from 1981-71 four teams with the home field edge won 2 of the first 3 and lost the Series overall (1981 NYY, 1979 BAL, 1978, LAD, and 1971 BAL), but that's the more recent trend.

Holland effectively wild in that inning. Very sharp breaking ball. Hopefully not the start of a trend.

I have to wonder if this might cause some sort of rule to come into effect. Like, isn't there a rule you can't strike the ball again outside of the box?

I don't know if my mind is playing tricks on me but I want to say it happened on a grounder hit to Scutaro this year. It may have just been one of those where the bat was a distraction but I seem to be remembering actual contact.

At a guess, to split up the two lefties in Murphy and Moreland. Which actually makes sense on its own.

Why it's Napoli in particular who's doing this... that makes less sense.

I haven't read every post of these game threads, but has anyone seen an explanation for why Jon Jay says he's from Cuba in the recorded pregame introductions? I've read that his parents are from Cuba, but he's listed as being born in Florida. Assuming his listed place of birth is correct, I'm not sure I understand the logic behind giving a shout-out to the communist dictatorship from which his parents apparently fled.

My father was born there and while I wouldn't say I was from Cuba I can understand it. There is a lot of pride in Cuba by the expat community that supersedes the hatred of Castro (which is strong in its own right).
