1. RoyalsRetro (AG#1F) Posted: July 19, 2007 at 01:54 PM (#2446238)Soria has really been a great find. He only throws in the low 90s, but his fastball has good movement and some bite to it - it seems faster than it is. His command is the best I've seen from a Royals pitcher in decade - he can hit the outside corner at will. He has pretty decent offspeed stuff. I think his stuff is definitely good enough to make it as a starter.
The first time I saw him in spring training I really had to question why San Diego didn't protect this guy. Even then though, I had no idea he'd be THIS good.
He hasn't given up a run in his last 18.1 IP, and has given up just one in his last 22.2 for a 0.40 ERA. Lefties hit .148 against him (righties don't fare much better at .207). Lefties have a .404 OPS against him. He's given up just four extra base hits all year. He has a 1.02 ERA at home. He brought peace to the Middle East, brought David Lee Roth back to Van Halen and turned water into wine.
I am sold!!
Yeah, seriously. I have a perverted interest in the Royal's climb out of suckitude that I have been unable to articulate and I enjoyed Garth's postings very much. I said this in another thread already today but I think the Royals are the new Tigers. They'll be in the playoffs in a few years.
And yet it was still updated more recently than the Yankees blog, the Mets blog, not to mention the 25 teams that don't even have blogs...
