Yahoo: [Marco] Estrada, 4 relievers pitch Brewers past Bucs, 1-0

Johnny WholeStaff pitches the three-hit shutout, helped by some horrible ABs in the ninth by Andrew McCutchen and Matt Diaz.

Marco Estrada pitched five innings in a spot start, combining with four relievers on a three-hitter, and Yuniesky Betancourt homered to carry the NL Central-leading Milwaukee Brewers to a 1-0 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday.

Takashi Saito, LaTroy Hawkins, Francisco Rodriguez and John Axford, who earned his 34th save by working around a lead off triple in the ninth, completed the shutout. [Derrek] Lee placed on DL with fractured left wrist

Good thing the Bucs held on to Overbay.....oh, nevermind. This Bucs season feels like late 90's Angel seasons. Contending for no real reason, then 12 injuries in mid-August to remind everyone you are cursed.

The rest of the NL needs to be scared shitless of the Brewers with Greinke firing on all cylinders.

Nah, it's just that Johnny WholeStaff games are fun when "he" [J. WS] does well.

This game probably being the pinnacle of Johnny WholeStaff games, even though it wasn't a planned start for Johnny.

What's annoying is that the Bucs got a leadoff triple out of Xavier Paul in the ninth, with the top of the order coming up, and couldn't convert it into a run. Two groundouts on the first frickin' pitch and then a strikeout on a drop-off-the-table curveball.

The Pirates have now lost 33 of their last 35 at Miller Park, in just about every way you can possibly lose a game, and they still have to go back there for the last series of the season. If the race isn't over by then, the Brewers have to be looking forward to that visit.

2-33 under any circumstances in major league baseball is absolutely incredible.

I wonder if this is curtains for Derrek Lee. He looked mighty toasty this season and this wrist injury won't help his already sapped power.

I know the Brewers are a fundamentally challenged team at times, but I must say, they're a fun team to watch this year.

The Pirates have now lost 33 of their last 35 at Miller Park

And if it wasn't for Ryan Doumit and Trevor Hoffman in those two consecutive games, it could have been 0-35. Crazy.
