ESPN: Source: White Sox claim Manny Ramirez

The clock started ticking on Manny Ramirez’s future as a Dodger on Friday, when the Chicago White Sox were awarded a waiver claim that gives them exclusive rights to make a deal to acquire Ramirez over the next four days. The teams now have until 1:30 p.m. ET Tuesday to complete a trade. According to a source monitoring the waiver wire, the White Sox were one of three teams to claim Ramirez after the Dodgers placed him on trade waivers Wednesday.

The Texas Rangers also claimed the 38-year-old future designated hitter, a source told ESPNDallas.com’s Richard Durett. And there were strong indications that the other team to claim Ramirez was the Tampa Bay Rays.

I can guarantee it wasn't the Twins or the Red Sox and it probably wasn't the Yankees. There's about a 95% chance it was the Rays without any indications.

I'm really curious to: 1) see if they can acquire Manny; 2) See what they have to give up so; 3) See if he can help them catch the Twins. Make it happen, Kenny.

The Rangers claimed him? So they would have played either him or Vlad in the field?

ESPN: Manny Ramirez out of lineup again
The Los Angeles Dodgers' reason du jour for keeping Manny Ramirez out of the lineup for the third consecutive game: Left field at Coors Field is too big for him to cover.

"It has nothing to do with all the gossip and all the waiver stuff," Dodgers manager Joe Torre said. "That has nothing to do with this."
...
Torre said he talked with Ramirez and that a loose schedule will be worked out between the two of them on when Ramirez will play going forward -- assuming he stays with the Dodgers. However, Torre said this doesn't suggest that Ramirez has been reduced to a backup outfielder and said Ramirez is still an everyday player.

"[But] every day when you're 38 doesn't mean every day," Torre said. "A regular player at that age isn't in there every day, especially if you're an outfielder."

So when does he expect Ramirez to play?

"We're going to sit down and map that out," Torre said. "One thing we want to do is make sure we're able to keep him on the field."

Yeah, and it has nothing to do with not wanting him to get re-injured before a deal can be struck.
