I doubt they'd break the precedent of 6.5 by that much, but who knows.
We'll see.
But, yeah, hard to imagine him not setting the record for pitchers. My WAG is something like $8/12/16 over his three years if they don't buy him out.
If I was Lincecum's agent, I'd tell the Giants I was filing at $13mn to see what they would offer to settle and then file at $10mn if the Giants won't settle for more. Lincecum doesn't have the minor league credit (as the HoM would put it) that Howard had but on the other hand he is demonstrably more valuable and exceptional.
I didnt RTFA, but why is there that 1 dollar included?
Who is the highest paid person who has Lincecum's service time? That seems like the first place to start.
This isn't true, at least not for a two-time CYA winner. From the CBA:
I'm not sure that's right. If I remember the Gagne case correctly (and as TFA also claims), Lincecum can argue that he has "special accomplishments" that mean he can compare himself against other players. Of course, that didn't work out so well for gagne, as the Dodgers were able to argue that being 55/55 in save ops (non all star game division!) did not meet the hurdle. but I think 2 consecutive CYAs is probably a stronger argument to your average arbitrator.
Ryan Howard. $10mn.
And of course we shouldn't forget that the Giants could have paid Lincecum what they liked this year if Sabean hadn't been itching to find some good press in early 2007 and kept him in the minors a week or so longer. That good press may well cost the Giants $20mn!
