Yankees manager Aaron Boone regrets slow hook of Severino

NEW YORK (AP) — Aaron Boone regrets his slow hook of Luis Severino.

Given a night to reflect on New York’s record-setting 16-1 loss to Boston in Game 3 of the AL Division Series, the Yankees’ rookie manager said he would not have let his ace take the mound for the fourth inning down 3-0 after allowing five singles and several hard-hit outs.

“Certainly in hindsight, when he doesn’t get an out, I’d like to have that back,” Boone said before Game 4 on Tuesday. “Being able to look back in hindsight, sure, go in a different way there in that spot.”

On the bright side, at least this isn’t the management that the team had twenty-five years ago, where he’d already have been fired after his loss…..

Not enough regret that he didn't do it again 24 hours later.

Boone-y's motto seems to be: If at first you don't succeed, fail, fail again.

I hate managers who are hired because they "blend well with the organization and its analytical approach" and "present the organization well to the media." When they can't actually ... you know ... manage ... (*) I loathe them even more.

Dude was completely clueless.

(*) And talk in a whiny voice all the time.

Even if he had taken him out, and the relievers had been perfect, they would have lost 3-1. If the relievers had pitched the way they did in the game, it would have been at least 13-1.

Believe Boone matched the Yanks pythag in 2018, instead of performing ten games under like the guy he replaced.

He was brought in to largely let the talent be, in addition to zero experience.

At least uou.can't accuse him of managering.

Yeah, I kind of struggle with the idea that a 16-1 loss had a turning point... or any regret worth specifying more than a generic "we got our asses kicked because we played like ####\"

I hate...

Nobody cares.

Boone is one of the rare managers that can win 100 games and yet be bad at his job. It's not unprecedented; Mike Matheny once won 100 games and lost the Division Series.

To a 97 win team.
