Yankees place Mark Teixeira on DL

Time to trot out…Mike Francesa: “The day the Yankees signed Mark Teixiera is the day the Yankees distanced themselves from the Red Sox for the next decade.”

The New York Yankees placed first baseman Mark Teixeira on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right hamstring.

The Yankees made the move prior to Saturday afternoon’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays. Catcher Austin Romine was recalled from Triple-A Scranton to replace Teixeira on the roster.

Teixeira suffered the injury during Friday night’s game in Toronto. The two-time All-Star will undergo an MRI on Monday to determine the severity of the injury, but Yankees manager Joe Girardi said Saturday that he did not believe Teixeira had a “bad strain.”

"He still lasted longer than Youkilis!"

Jose Reyes only lasted one at-bat. Tex still has DL East bragging rights.

And so it begins.

So Jeter has outlasted Teixeira AND Ryan so far. Given the health problems Brian Roberts has had it could easily come down to Jeter and Johnson for last infielder standing

Well, at least it wasn't his wrist ...

Man - this is going to be a train-wreck....

The Angels might listen if the Yankees wanted to unload some spare parts (bullpen) for a shiny and healthy Albert Pujols....

He's old, costly and formerly good. So, he'd fit right in....

So, Teixeira's only got a charley horse?

Teix for Pujols, who says no?

Results show he wasn't wrong.

[8] With A-Rod suspended have the centaur jokes spread to all Yankee infielders now?

Yankees might be better without him if they go out and sign Morales

Solarte -3B, Anna-SS, Sizemore-2B, Johnson -1B might be their If at some point

Teixeira is the reason the Angels landed Trout.

I bet Ichiro could play first. (Wait for it). If he wanted to.

Tony Kornheiser has said more than once that Teixeira was the best free agent signing in history. I haven't heard that in a few years, but I'm not sure you could have said that at any point in the contract.

The three that come instantly to mind for me are:
Barry Bonds 1993
Greg Maddux 1993
Randy Johnson 1998

A-Rod is rested and ready.

But is he tanned? He has to be tanned too, you know.

I guess Kornheiser's logic was that they signed Teixeira, they immediately won the World Series, and without his great season they would not have won the World Series. This is also my argument for why Pedro Feliz to the Phillies was the best free agent signing in history. Would they have gone all the way with Eric Bruntlett at the hot corner?

It probably sounded better early in the contract, when it seemed like they were in a new era of dominance.
