Yankees sign Eric Milton to minor-league deal

Gernal manager Brian Cashman confirmed the Yankees have signed lefty Eric Milton to a minor-league contract.

Milton, who turns 33 next month, is still recovering from “Tommy John” surgery. He threw on flat ground today in Tampa, Fla., and is at least six weeks away from pitching in games.

“If he does anything to help us this year, that’s fine,” Cashman said. “We’re just going to have a chance to get an advance look (for 2009).”

Can anyone beat a 1-2 punch of Ponson and Milton?

There were rumors that they were interested in Milt in that disasterous offseason after 2004. Honestly, I don't have much problem with a minor-league deal. I was worried then that they'd pay him eight-digit money per year for four years or so. Yes, that's Pavano money.

I like how they put Tommy John surgery in quotes as if Milton were making it up; like he's just been on a bender for the past year or so.

The Yankees have a crying need for a bat, particularly one who can hit from the right side, and Brian Cashman delivers a washed up left-handed pitcher who MIGHT be able to pitch for them in 2009. Brilliant.

I'd like to see a move for Juan Rivera, as long as he promises not to steal Jeter's equipment.

They really need to get Abreu off the field, too.

never mind that Sexson doesn't have much of a platoon split in other years

or that Sexson's career line in Yankee Stadium is .151/.250/.370 in 84 PA

I give you the Texas Rangers with their STAFF ERA+ of 82.

Amazingly, the team is 4 games over 500 (that's what an OPS+ of 118 will do for ya).

It seems like the Rangers have had one of the worst rotations in the AL since about 1997. Who was the last Rangers pitcher to be an All-Star? John Wetteland?
