Yankees still give ‘very mature’ Jorge Mateo a big demotion | New York Post

Girardi said he spoke with Mateo on Friday before departing for Lakeland, where the Yankees visited the Tigers at Joker Marchant Stadium.

“I told him, ‘Wherever you go, it’s your job to go down and dominate because you’re a special talent,’ ’’ Girardi said. “In a way, it’s a real blessing to have the talent that he has, but it’s also a curse. [People] are always gonna watch every move you make, because they want to see what you’re gonna do.”

Austin Romine’s bruised right hand has improved, but Girardi isn’t sure if Romine will make the trip to West Palm Beach, Fla., to play the Braves on Sunday.

The Braves aren't in West Palm Beach; the Yankees play @ the Astros on Sunday, and @ the Nationals on Monday, both at the Ballpark of the Palm Beaches. Not sure if that is a real spring training road trip or they shuttle everyone they need over and back both days. A couple of other teams that train on the Gulf Coast have similar back-to-back road games against the Nats & Astros, so it doesn't seem to be just random scheduling.

Saw him hit a FB this ST. He thought it was a HR and did a bat flip that would put Bautista to shame and then started a HR trot Ortiz would be proud of. By the time he reached 1B the ball was caught.

Kid has bust written all over him but he is still young. Big year for him to produce or lose his elite prospect status

My bet is he gets traded at the deadline if he puts up decent numbers in his 3rd year in A+ ball.
