Yankees Talking To Several Teams About Robinson Cano: ‘He’s Good And We’re Going To Keep Him’

I guess this is one rumor we can put to bed:

“Brian Cashman called me up this past week and asked what we’d be willing to give up for Robinson Cano, but before I could even answer, he said, ‘Whatever it is, it wouldn’t be enough, because we just love the guy,’” an executive within the Blue Jays organization told reporters.

Good thinking.

And how do we know it's from the Onion? Because if AA actually got Cashman on the phone, he'd have ended up with Cano, in return for nothing more than a couple middle relievers, and a backup outfielder.

I really think that these articles should be marked "Satire" before the headline.

In my defense, I tried to put "The Onion" in the headline, but it wouldn't fit with the rest. And I thought the second bit--which I was unaware would get cut off on the main page--made the satire clear.

Yeah, on hot topics it's obvious that this is a joke, but that doesn't show up on the main page. No biggie.

Some real news: The Mariners finally won today. Beat the crap out of the MFY at the New Toilet, 9-2. A very satisfying win not least because all of the poop references in the previous sentence allow me to equate this win with the Mariners' fans feeling like they just took a big #### and its name was Philip Hughes. Their long constipation streak has ended. Every Mariners fan has a #### eating grin on his face. Etc. Carry on.

On the other hand, that is something that the 2011 Cashman might do.

2 runs over 6 innings?

I shouldn't be too harsh, when you're a second-division team like Seattle you can never know what the highlight of your season is going to be. For the Mariners this year, it may well be Felix Hernandez beating the New York Yankees in July to move the Mariners within 16 games of .500

I clicked on this thread because that's precisely what I thought. It seems almost inevitable.

If Cashman's treating this year as a piece of performance art (as a buddy of mine claims), he needs pull off a really baroque trade that start with Cano going to Houston and end with the Yankees getting Jemile Weeks, Dan Uggla, Omar Infante, Chris Getz, and Bill Hall. At the press conference, Cashman can refer to Robinson as "Von Cano" and laugh maniacally at inappropriate times.

I shouldn't be too harsh, when you're a second-division pitcher like Philip Huges you can never know what the highlight of your season is going to be. For Philip Hughes this year, it may well be losing for the New York Yankees in July but only giving up 2 runs to the Mariners, who with the win move within 16 games of .500

FTFY. Also, you forgot to include something about the evils of revenue sharing.

so, in other words, king felix is going to get traded for robinson cano?

I think the highlight of the season for most fans of basement-dwelling loser teams like Seattle is sniping at the players on far better teams. Hey, what else are you going to do to put the standings out of your mind?

FTFY. Also, you forgot to include something about the evils of revenue sharing.

Why? Seattle actually has to dig into their own pockets to pay for Jeffrey Loria's new yacht. Obviously revenue sharing is a preposterous scam designed to flood the coffers of well-positioned owners with ill-gotten monies fairly earned by other, better-managed franchises, but I don't see the relevance here at all.

Philip Hughes for Felix Hernandez's kid's soiled diaper. Hey, the Mariners got ripped off!

Cano today: 1-for-4, RBI. Decent, but not Dustin Ackley good.

Question: When is it appropriate to laugh maniacally during a press conference? I may be holding a press conference soon.

One more hitless at-bat and that's Mendoza territory. Trade that clown.

It's inappropriate to laugh maniacally at a press conference when you are saying something like, "We really like Robinson and are sad to let him go." All other times, it's fine. Especially when you talk about Chris Getz's clubhouse presence.

No, it's for . . . other reasons. Reasons totally unrelated to my plans for world domination. Of which I have none.
