Yankees TV host Bob Lorenz charged with drunken driving; cops found YES anchor passed out in car

Passed out? How could they possibly tell the difference?

YES Network television host Bob Lorenz has been charged with drunken driving in Connecticut where police say he was found passed out in his car in his hometown of Westport.

The 48-year-old Lorenz was arrested early Wednesday morning. Police say they found him slumped over the wheel of his car and when they woke him up he drove away slowly and nearly hit a utility pole. Officers say his speech was slurred and he smelled of alcohol.

Lorenz hosts pregame and postgame shows for the New York Yankees and New Jersey Nets. He was arraigned Wednesday at Norwalk Superior Court and his case was continued to Feb. 29.

Oh, Bob. You should know better than that.

This happens so often that there are multiple standard jokes for the situation. I can't be bothered to check to see if he has children to be taken away, so I will instead suggest that detectives believe that alcohol was involved.

What's up with broadcasters and drunken driving?

I think the story would be far more interesting if the "Bob Lorenz" and "YES anchor" referenced in the headline were two different people.

If I had to work with some of the inane on-air personalities that call games, I'd drink more too.

If it weren't for all the East Coast media bias, this story would've gone the way of a fetus who ran into a coathanger.

Did I miss the thread on the James Loney charges being dropped? I was wondering if he got his kids given back.

he wasn't charged because the cops think he hit his head or something and was not intoxicated as originally thought ... makes sense since he played out of his mind the last two months of last season. well, out of his mind for james loney anyway ...

Wait, cops found him passed out in his car smelling of alcohol and they let him drive away? Am I reading that correctly? WTF?

I read that as they woke him up, he startled to and drove into a pole. In which case I hope the footage from the cop car makes its way to some show like Worlds Most Idiotic Idiots.

Wow. That's a pretty unpleasant way of putting it. Lol

I'm not offended or anything. It just kinda surprised me.

Carry on. :)

Sure -- they had Dan McLaughlin cooling his heels nearby.... sometimes cops like to race drunk drivers like rats through a maze.

All work and no play, you know!
