Zambrano obviously is lacking in the etiquette department. His act is so pathetic and juvenile out there. But he's doing it for my fantasy team this year, so now I find it sort of amusing.

Carlos Zambrano, the new Joaquin Andujar. I enjoyed Joaquin very much so certainly appreciate what Zambrano brings to the game.

Carlos' "act" is fun when he's pitching for your team. Personally, I think it's awesome to have a pitcher who cares that much. And based on his performance last year with runners in scoring position, I think his high strung attitude actually makes him a better pitcher. Still, I could see how it could be galling for a player or fan to watch a pitcher who celebrates when things go well for him.


As for his comments, I'm not a fan. I'd prefer it if Carlos let his playing (and gesticulating) do the talking. I don't think the Brewers have a player as good as Dunn, but 1-8 in the lineup Milwaukee is at least comparable, if not better than the Reds.

As a follow up to Thomas' comment, Carlos is no different than the other pitchers of a similar nature such as Andujar and Jose Lima. When going well they rub it in at every opportunity and when pitching poorly they sulk, pout, and in general act like the typical five year old who was told to not eat the Silly Putty. Which means the lad is highly entertaining no matter the circumstances.

By my reckoning Zambrano is now 8-7 in his career against the Brewers with an ERA right around 4. In case anyone is interested.

Based on Zambrano, Guillen, and Hugo Chavez, Venezuela seems like it'd be a fun country to visit.

That's right. (I looked it up: 8-7, 4.17 ERA.) It's notable that he has a better career mark against the Reds, 8-6, 3.06 ERA; and last year, Zambrano was hit harder by the Brewers (6.35 ERA, 1.68 WHIP, .276 BAA) than he was by the Reds (3.76 ERA, 1.38 WHIP, .209 BAA).

I actually don't recall any sulking from Zambrano, but perhaps I haven't been paying enough attention.

Also, from what I recall, Andujar took his exile to Oakland like a man.

We may be discussing semantics, then. To me, that reaction you describe is disgust at himself for letting it happen. I see sulking as more of a self-pitying kind of thing. YMMV.
