Transaction Oracle— A Timely Look at Transactions as They Happen
Friday, December 23, 2005
Angels - Acquired Alfonzo
Los Angeles Angels - Acquired 3B Edgardo Alfonzo from the San Francisco Giants for OF Steve Finley.
[Note: The Oracle won’t be oraculating for a few days due to Christmas stuff]
Three or four years ago, this would be an exciting trade. Now, it’s just a swap of one disappointing player for another. Either of these players getting the starting nods on their new teams would be an unmitigated disaster - Dallas McPherson, while having holes in his game, is a far better option at 3rd than Alfonzo and if the Giants are going to put Finley in a Bonds/Alou outfield, flyball pitchers are going to start offing themselves in May.

1. Dan The Mediocre Posted: December 23, 2005 at 03:09 AM (#1791150)Yeah, I had no idea he was *so* bad last year. 440 PAs
of .222/.271/.374...yecch. Vladi really did damn near get them
to the playoffs by themselves didn't he?
Good thing he plays gold glove defense. Honestly, did anyone not realize that the Finley signing would be a debacle?
Apparently the Angels didn't.
Don't you mean effing themselves, as in f___ing themselves?
I do know that Finley's defense is poor (being generous). His line stinks. Elsewhere MGL stated he was the better offensive player of the two, and I know Finley was fighting injuries, but having watched Finley in 2004 go through hot and cold streaks, I wasn't the least surprised he was terrible in 2005. I suspect ZIPS is accurate - Finley is toast.
I'm hoping he'll do JUST well enough offensively, though, to merit significant playing time in center between Bonds and Alou. That would be hilarious.
Where is Chris Russo on this one? " Tough spot Mike..."
the man is clueless about offense.

I tried too tell angels fans but they wouldn't listen...it also wasn't hard too see his offensive downfall considering he benefitted so much from B1P.
