Angels - Acquired Prinz

Los Angeles Angels - Acquired P Bret Prinz from the New York Yankees for C Wil Nieves.

Upside trade for the Angels; Wil Nieves is essentially worthless both to the Angels and to the Yankees, as the former team has the Molinas and the latter, future HOFer John Flaherty.  Prinz has had quite an up-and-down career, but he still has some upside and a terrific fastball.  I think I would prefer someone like Bootcheck on the team, but this is the last reliever spot we’re talking about, not a cleanup hitter.

In other news, the Mets Acquired Juan Nievesto compete with Kaz Ishii for the 5 spot in the rotation.

Better than Melvin Nieves.

He'a related to Melvin actually, a cousin I believe.

Prinz has a decent arm, I think if he gets regular work he could be an okay reliever, but he had no room on the Yankees and was out of options. Torre would not give him regular work, which I think hurt his control and effectiveness.

I disagree with Dan about Nieves. He does stink, but the Yankees third string catcher was David Parrish, who'd be out of baseball if his last name wasn't Parrish. At least this gives them a Flaherty-type in case Bad Flash gets hurt. If Posada gets hurt, they're screwed anyway.

So much for Prinz's BB sponser

So he's now the Fresh Prinz of Bel Air?

Nice, scotto. When the Prinz to AZ rumors came up, I trademarked the "Prinz in Purple Reign II" slogan.

I see another Bud Black reclamation-project-made-good in the making here. Prinz had been, when healthy, absolutely dominant in AAA, but has been hammered in the bigs. He's got great stuff, though, and can't possibly be any worse than, say, Esteban Yan.

Heh, very sly levski.

How is Nieves defensively?

Who, dare I ask, is Bootcheck?
