Arizona - Signed Easley

Arizona Diamondbacks - Signed IF Damion Easley to a 1-year contract.

The terms of this are still undisclosed, but I’d guess an even million or so.

Easley would be a good role player if he could play short and second well.  He was never good at shortstop other than a fill-in and while he was once a pretty good defensive player at second, that was when the miles on the odometer were a lot lower.  Easley’s likely to be Alex Cintron with less defense in Arizona.  Maybe he can earn his keep helping Moorad move boxes around or bringing his car to the car wash.

I read that Easley is building a house next to Tony Clark's new digs in the Valley. They've been bestest of pals ever since they robbed the mighty Tigers in the mid-1990s. My guess is Easley is going to help Clark coach a little league team or two while he's back in AZ. Maybe even go bowling.

I certainly hope he starts taking whatever it was that Clark was taking last year. I have Easley projected to hit 37 homers in 348 at bats next year, with ungodly .399 OBP. He'll finally earn the $20m he got from DET. My best bet as to the move is that Easley has some video of Jeff Moorad.

Ok, my guess is that Glaus is on the way out, and Tracy will move back to 3b next year. So Byrnes wants someone who can backup 3B on occasion, or even pinch hit for Tracy when the opposing manager brings in his most favoritest loogy to leave Chad hanging, as Cintron may get the job at SS.

IIRC, Easley once participated in the ASG Home Run derby in the late 1990s, which probably ranks him among the least likely players to have appeared in the event.

Some more surprising, but totally useless trivia about Easley (from BBRef.com):
-He's started as his team's DH 19 times in his career
-He's been HBP 115 times in his career, 8th most among active players and 36th All Time

A bit off-topic, but is HBP an "old player skill"? I would guess that it correlates with the others James listed.

That probably depends. Biggio uses his cat-like reflexes to drape his elbow armor in front of the pitch. Craig Wilson is just too slow to get away.

Carlos Quentin disagrees. But he may just be the exception that proves the rule. In other words, I got nothing.

Is Bobby Higginson next?

AJM, in 5 years.

Supposedly Easley got $700k.
