Astros - Signed Feliz
Houston Astros - Signed 3B Pedro Feliz to a 1-year, $4.5 million contract.
Better than Geoff Blum! This has been the rallying cry of Astros fans since this signing. I wonder if these same fans, when given a 20% salary cut at the office, would proclaim “It’s better than roaming the streets looking for used hypodermic needles in trash cans!” Or, if being served a raccoon stuffed with spam at Christmas, yell out “At least it beats Taco Bell!” in cries of joy.
The Astros think they’re a competitor for the division in 2010. Which, I guess, is kind of cute, in the same way a 10-year-old rightfielder with coke-bottle glasses thinking he’s going to be Albert Pujols is a little endearing. Feliz’s defense has been getting more ordinary (mordinary?) the last couple of seasons and given what a hack he is at the plate, this isn’t really the best plan for the Astros, even if they really were an 85-90 win team. Well, at least given the state of the farm system, Feliz isn’t blocking anyone (Chris Johnson wouldn’t be all that good in 2010).

1. Edmundo got dem ol' Kozma blues again mamaMy prediction for 2011 for Pedro Feliz - an NRI. He's lost some range and seems to have lost his power.
