Boone, Sele Released
Seattle Mariners - Released P Aaron Sele.
Minnesota Twins - Released 2B Bret Boone.
Addition by subtraction - 0forthreeivas is a better player than Boone is (as is the recalled Jason Bartlett) and everyone’s better than Aaron Sele. I’m guessing neither will announce their retirement and end up being surprised when they don’t get a job this offseason a la Harold Baines. I’m not heartbroken about either of these releases as Sele has earned millions of dollars more over the years than his performance warrants and I simply don’t like Boone.

1. Never Give an Inge (Dave) Posted: August 03, 2005 at 02:21 AM (#1519001)I think it a lot more likely that the Sox give Aaron Sele a look.
Sele was amazingly effective for awhile this season, with a month of All-Start caliber performance. Too bad it's a six-month season.
Sele should join Braves and go 8-1 the rest of the way, then get a 3 yr $24M deal from Yanks in offseason, but I'm not his agent...
I like Aaron Sele. In fact, back when I used to play baseball, I got my curveball to break best when I mimicked his delivery. I don't want to see him go!

[To Bret Boone]: You! You are the worst thing to happen to organized baseball since the DH!
[To Aaron Sele]: And you ... well I just plain don't like you.
Given the injury problems of their geriatric rotation, they don't have much choice.
But if they sign Boone, they'll have a white second baseman, a black second baseman, a Japanese second baseman, and a Dominican second baseman on the 40-man roster. You can't put a price on that.
With that said, neither of these guys can do it anymore. They should quietly hang it up at the end of the year and enjoy their broadcasting careers.
