Transaction Oracle— A Timely Look at Transactions as They Happen

Braves - Acquired Hollandsworth
Atlanta Braves - Acquired OF Todd Hollandsworth from the Chicago Cubs for P Todd Blackford and P Angelo Burrows.
With both Lawton and Hollandsworth gone, one after the other, one has to think that Jim Hendry has figured out that you deal with Dusty Baker as you would a 5-year-old around dangerous household chemicals - put Mr. Yuck stickers on the bottle and safely store them out of the youngster’s irresponsible hands. Todd Hollandworth isn’t needed to clean the kitchen floor, so Hendry could do even better and give him to the neighbor. Blackford has improved from a terrible professional debut and Burrows is a better reliever than he was an outfielder, but it’s highly unlikely that either will ever play in the majors, let alone be of any value.
Hollandsworth will be pure role player in Atlanta, a task which he can handle and he will be playing for a manager who has a functioning adult brain.

1. Hendry's Wad of Cash (UCCF) Posted: August 30, 2005 at 06:10 PM (#1584575)Regardless of what they got in return, if this deal means Murton plays every day for the next 5 weeks, it was a good deal.
Thanks?
We are talking about this in the other thread (where I will undoubtedly repeat these thoughts), but I will say this -- this team would be better off if they didn't give the Mr. Yucks to Dusty in the first place.
Andruw every day in CF, Francoeur in RF, and continuing a pseudo platoon with Johnson and Langerhans in LF, and Holly on the bench, I guess.
I guess Devine probably gets sent to Richmond for the 25 man spot, that makes sense since you know, he's not ready and all.
Langerhans/Hollandsworth!
Langerhans/Hollandsworth!
* POOF *
That may be the record for most letters in a platoon.
1. Cox can now use Langerhans as a pinch runner if needed and still have an extra OF on the bench.
2. Julio Franco is hurting. Bad elbow or shoulder. Can't really throw so well right now. This gives Cox a chance to have another backup 1B.
Rodd Langerhallandsworth is a pretty decent one.
It wasn't really a platoon, but when Damon Buford and Darren Lewis were splitting time in center in '99, the Red Sox newsgroup called him Lewford. And then, the Red Sox quietly drafted Lew Ford later that year, which confused the hell out of everyone. I think it took half the newsgroup until the 2000 season to realize that Lewford and Lew Ford were separate entities.
